Right: Moretto’s new X Comb mini dryer is suited to drying engineering plastics

functionality while contributing to space efficiency.

MJ6-i has a 7-inch touch panel

that graphically displays the machine’s drying status, operating history, and other information. Users can easily change the temperature setting or set the schedule timer by touching the control screen. Moretto launched the X Comb mini dryer series at the K show. The compact, all-electric dryer was designed using advanced thermo- dynamic simulation software and is suited to drying engineering resins. Features include a 100% Zeolite desiccant rotor that provides superior absorbent capacity versus silica gel materials, as well as a special honeycomb wheel technology together with a digital motor that allows for a constant dew point and the ability to produce quality dried air up to -62°F dewpoint. The X Comb mini dryer uses Moretto’s Original

Thermal EXchanger hopper design that allows for uniform drying of the material while its internal geometry significantly reduces the residence time of the polymer versus conventional hopper designs and eliminates the problem of polymer falling flows. Two hyper flow turbo-compressors with variable flow capability supply the correct airflow for optimal energy consumption. The thermal insulation of the hopper helps to maintain optimal resin temperature. The unit is controlled through an LCD touch

screen and graphic user interface. A built-in intelligence feature automatically sets all param- eters following the input of material type and throughput rate. Moretto offers the X Comb series with a choice of seven hopper sizes. The dryer is available in an

On version for direct installation onto the machine throat of a processing ma- chine, a Side version where it is placed beside the processing machine, or a Multi version whereby hoppers are installed on a trolley to handle the drying needs of different materials. The unit can be connected to Moretto’s MOWIS supervisory and management software or through RS485, Modbus or USB for data downloads. Wittmann’s Drymax FC plus drying system, showcased at last

year’s K show, optimises energy management as a route to reducing

operating expenses, while improving the avail- ability and safety of the material drying process. The Drymax system features the new FC plus

function, whereby only the amount of drying air that is indispensable for safe operation is gener- ated. FC plus monitors and controls dry airflow, providing only what is needed, which can bring energy savings of up to 60% compared to conven- tional dryer systems. FC plus functions according to the automatic

start-stop or motor switch-off principle well known in the automotive sector, in which very high fuel savings are achieved in certain situations, says Wittmann. For the Drymax FC plus this means its dryers come equipped with two or more low-pow- er dry air generators, as well as automatic air control flaps known as SmartFlow flaps, installed in the drying hopper, for enhanced control. The FC plus function monitors the drying

process. When it recognises partial load operation, the quantity of dry air flow through the individual drying hopper is gradually reduced. As the drying demand of the system drops, FC plus automatically shuts off an individual dry air generator in a step-by-step approach. In the case of rising drying demand, for instance at start-up, the system responds just as autonomously, activating the drying air generators that are waiting on standby, as required. The availability of the equipment also increases, since drying can be continued with reduced power even during servicing.
