Dryer developments provide energy
efficiency through automation and
flexibility through design to optimise the drying process and material quality. By Mikell Knights
Dryer suppliers respond to multiple challenges
Suppliers of material dryers face a myriad of chal- lenges. Some say their clients seek viable solutions that reduce their operating expenses by optimising energy management. Others say finding the right personnel and making training and onboarding easier for plastics processors by offering a common control platform across a range of ancillary equip- ment is the goal. Still others say developing drying solutions for customers processing post-consumer, post-industrial, recycled or bio-polymers and ensuring that the material is not over- or under-dried is paramount in their new offerings. State-of-the-art controls that manage more than
the dryer, new functions that tailor drying tempera- ture and air flow volume precisely or keep dried material dry even down to the throat of the processing machine, or new drying technologies that shorten drying residence time while improving drying quality mark the latest developments. Auxiliary equipment supplier Conair has
introduced its DC-B control across its portfolio of dryers and drying equipment with throughput rates above 15 lb/hr. Implementation of the control into

its dryer technology product lines completes a multi-year effort to install the DC-B as a common control across all its HMI interfaced auxiliary equipment. According to AJ Zambanini, Director of Product Management at Conair, “The same control is already available on our blending, conveying and temperature control auxiliaries. Our drying custom- ers now receive a control that offers the same interaction style, features, colours, languages, communication, and monitoring capabilities whether you are processing 15 lbs/hr or 5,000 lbs/ hr. [Also] there is much less training involved for an operator to understand and master the use of different auxiliary equipment”. DC-B is now common on Conair’s Carousel Plus
dX series of mobile desiccant dryers, its Carousel Plus D series of wheel desiccant dryers, its Resin- Works centralised drying system, its Multi-Hopper Cart (MHC) line of portable central drying system, its CR series of PET crystallisers, its Hot Air Dryers, its GasTrac Process Air Heaters, its HP series Electric heater packs and its HTC line of Hopper Tempera-
