Bemis expands in Mexico
US injection moulding group Bemis Manufacturing has completed the expansion of its facility at Monterrey, Mexico. The Wisconsin- based company said the project has enlarged its manufacturing footprint and advances its technical manufacturing capabilities in the increasingly impor- tant Mexican market. The facility covers 5,000
m2
and houses three new machines in the 1,000- to 1,500-tonne range, plus a multi-barrel machine “to enhance both product innovation and processing performance”. This follows the addition of a 2,600-tonne press in 2015. The plant infrastructure can now support presses as large as 4,400 tonnes. The Monterrey site, which is FDA registered for manufacturing and ISO 13485-certified for medical devices, will also be ISO 9000-certified in 2018. It currently employs 160, a number that is expected to grow. Doug Odell, vice- president of sales for Bemis’s Contract Group, added that the group’s two other facilities at Lenoir, North Carolina, and Sheboygan Falls, Wiscon- sin, are also experiencing significant growth. He pointed out the
importance of Bemis being in close proximity to its customers. ❙
