news Proto Labs expands in US and Europe
Fast parts manufacturing firm Proto Labs has expanded its offerings in North America and Europe. In the US, where it has three production facilities, the group has started an on-de- mand injection moulding service for production parts. Until now, its injection moulding services have been dedicated to prototyping. “Since every manufacturing
project is different, our two injection molding options let customers begin to focus on what is really needed from their tooling,” said Becky Cater, Global Product Manager for injection moulding at Proto Labs.
business now totals 130 CNC machining centres and 57 injection moulding machines. Lee Ball, Proto Labs

Proto Labs’ US business has also opened its first metrology lab for enhanced inspection reporting on end-use production parts. The lab houses a range of standard inspection equipment, as well as 3D scanners that provide an automated 360˚ look at parts
within minutes. In Europe, the group is making a €4m investment, with the largest part being made at its facility in Telford, UK. In June and July, the facility acquired new Haas CNC machines and Arburg injection moulding machines. The UK
General Manager in the UK, said: “We are seeing demand for moulded parts increase across the board year-over- year, from both long-standing and new customers, for a range of products and industries. To meet predicted levels of growth, a critical leverage is this investment in new technology.” Proto Labs has other
facilities in Germany, France, Italy, Sweden and Finland, as well as one in Japan. ❙
