Coating installation adds to graphic BOPP film capacity
Innovia Films has installed a new coater for graphics BOPP film at its production plant in Wigton in the UK. The company says the investment is part of its desire to deliver sustain- able, PVC-free solutions to the graphics industry. The BOPP base film, together with the innova- tive extrusion process, reduces the environmental impact over the product lifecycle, it says. Benefits include lower energy consumption in produc- tion, the elimination of hazardous substances like chlorine, and improved recyclability. The 40m-long coating
line offers multiple coating techniques for water- based coatings up to 50 gsm coat weight, with sophisticated web han- dling and drying systems.
ELECTRONICS Boosting electric motor efficiency
Syensqo and Politubes are to develop slot liner spiral-wound tubes using Ajedium Peek and polyphenylsulphone (PPSU) film. The spiral-wound slot liner tubes take advantage of the properties of the Peek films,
providing superior insulation for electric motors. The design enhances e-motor efficiency by up to 2%, enabling a more effective copper fill factor and improved heat dissipation. This allows manufacturers to benefit from lightweighting and reduced total costs. “We’ve seen increasing demand from automotive manufacturers for EV tubes made with
Peek or PPSU,” said Federico Penzo, CEO of Politubes. “By partnering with Syensqo, we can meet these requests.” The Peek slot liner spiral-wound tubes
address the growing demand for efficient, sus- tainable and innovative solutions within the electric motor market, said the partners.

Natural colours collection
With a web width of up to 1650mm, the line can meet the technical demands of modern graphic arts films, says the company. “This tailor-made coater will be dedicated to our Rayoart film,” said Simon Huber, managing director of Innovia Europe. “It will make it easy for our customers to transition from PVC.” The new coating line allows the company to make
products – developed on its pilot coating equipment – under industrial conditions at high line-speeds and full web width. “Retailers and brand- owners often don’t know they are still using PVC films, as it has been a common material for a very long time,” said the company. “Rayoart base film offers a high-quality polyolefin- based alternative.”

Ampacet has introduced its Earthen Clay collection of special effects master- batches that replicates natural matte colours. Suitable for use in polyethylene, for extru- sion and multi-layer blow moulding, the materials can be used in applica- tions including personal care, hair care and beauty packaging – as well as home and garden products. Because of the recyclable muted matte outer layer, it is part of Ampacet’s R3 ‘sustainable solutions’ portfolio. “This collection harks back to prehistoric times, when clay figurines and pottery were made as a form of artistic expres- sion,” said Mercedes Landazuri, market insight manager at Ampacet.
