manufactured. It achieves a plasticising capacity of up to 1,250 kg/h with a mixture of virgin PP and up to 80% regrind. An HSE 75/37V semi-high-speed extruder serves as the co-extruder (for the A-lay- ers). The complete extrusion system of the line delivers a maximum plasticising capacity of up to 1,850 kg/h. The extruder for the foamed PP sheet has a special design. In addition, the extrusion system has a foaming technology package customised for PP in the melt pipes of the main extruder. Adding small quantities of inert gases and a nucleating agent into the melt enables the creation of fine microcells in the core layer of the sheet.

Art installation Exolon supplied its Vivak PETG copolyester plastic sheets for an art installation that ran last year at the Institute of Architecture Related Art (IAK) at the Technical University of Braunschweig in Germany. During the day, the ‘West auf Nordwest’ lighting

installation was translucent white, while at night it was blue and shimmered in black light. A swarm of jellyfish, made of transparent Vivak plastic sheet, hovered 2m above the nearby River Oker. The

artwork – by IAK student Alma Barwitzky – was one of 13 temporary and five permanent installations on the Lichtparcours light trail around the centre of Braunschweig. In total, Exolon provided around 70 Vivak sheets in thicknesses of 2 and 3mm to make the jellyfish. These were thermoformed into bodies of different sizes and cut into strips. The lightweight material enabled the art to be suspended on thin wires. Using black light, the objects lit up from the inside and seemed to float above the river.
