Water loss Renolit’s geomembranes have also tackled the issue of water loss in the artificial lake of a Spanish shopping centre – which has a completely open-air layout. The loss was due to the original waterproof- ing system, which had extensive cracks and efflorescence. After consultation with the installer and property
owner, Renolit’s Hydro H 35254 – homogenous dark grey membrane – was selected, for its ability to stop leaks without compromising aesthetic appeal. It was tailored to address the lake’s complex geometry. It also allowed for individual waterproofing around valves, pumps, and drains, says Renolit. A critical initial step was the careful elevation of a metal structure supporting the central fountain, ensuring no damage to the underlying pipes. This was followed by the strategic placement of a 400 g/sq m polypropylene geotextile and additional protective layers. The project was completed over four weeks.
India plans Renolit has also begun building a new plant in Pune, India to produce geomembranes for civil engineering projects in the Asia-Pacific market. “India is now the most populous country on
earth and, with growth of over 6%, is the fastest- growing major economy in the world,” said Karsten Jänicke, CEO of Renolit. “With the new plant, we are sending a clear signal for our long-term growth strategy in Asia.”
