Higher efficiency in materials handling
Advances in materials handling include a mobile dryer with lower energy consumption, compressed air dryers for low throughputs and a mixer that helped boost recycling
Materials handling incorporates several types of equipment that must – in various ways – dry, mix and convey a variety of raw materials with high efficiency. To this end, Coperion recently presented
several materials handling technologies at this year’s Chinaplas. It says that its ProRate Plus continuous gravimetric feeder line is an economi- cal solution that offers a quick return on investment due to its good price-performance ratio. It features a space-saving trapezoidal shape which allows up to six feeders to be grouped around an extruder inlet within a 1.5m radius. Three single-screw feeder models (Plus-S, Plus-M and Plus-L) along with the Plus-MT twin screw model cover a range of throughputs and bulk materials. In addition, it demonstrated its Coperion K-Tron
K2-ML-D5-T35 gravimetric feeder with ActiFlow smart bulk solid activator and EPC (Electronic Pressure Compensation). The feeder is equipped with a 2415 vacuum receiver for refill. The ActiFlow smart bulk solid activator offers a
way to prevent bridging and rat-holing of cohesive bulk materials in stainless steel hoppers without internal hopper agitation. It applies gentle vibra- tions to the hopper wall, to activate the contained material with the optimal amplitude and frequency. It is designed specifically to work with Coperion K-Tron’s line of gravimetric loss-in-weight feeders. The company has also developed a new
discharge gate valve for controlled bulk material flow from storage bins and hoppers to downstream process steps. A particular feature of the new FFU universal gate discharge valve is that it closes securely and

reliably while material is flowing – and when stationary – making it ideal for demanding applica- tions. This new valve that is well thought out in design and construction secures operators a singularly reliable technology solution and makes installation and maintenance simple. The valve is made using precision casting, enabling a compact, lightweight design. Its geometry, select guide elements and the form of the seal ensure that the valve can be used for a variety of applications with diverse demands, even in combustible areas. The new geometry allows the gate valve to be used in the usual way even when the bulk material is stationary. Various models with manual or pneumatic drive are available in sizes DN 150 to 400 (6 to 16in). “The FFU universal gate valve offer a simple,
cost-effective and flexible solution for numerous discharge applications in a variety of industries,” said Markus Reinke, head of component sales at Coperion.
