Eurocell reports dip in first half of year

UK-based window profiles manufac- turer Eurocell has reported reduced sales and profits for the first half of this year. First-half sales of £184 million (US$225m) were down 2% compared to the same period last year. Pre-tax profit for the period was £3.5m (US$4m), a 12% decline on the same period in 2021. “Market conditions in H1 2023 became more challenging than we had anticipated, on the back of a sluggish new build housing market and lower RMI activity,” said Darren Waters, CEO of Eurocell. “Against this backdrop, and a strong comparative period, we delivered some resilience in sales performance in the first half – with volumes down 6% – and improved cash flow.” Profile production of around 28,000 tonnes was up 5% compared to that of H1 2022. Overall equipment

effectiveness was 78% in the period, an improvement on the 71% reported for the whole of 2022 – and ahead of the company’s target of 75%. In the period, the company’s use of

recyclate increased to 32% (around 9,100 tonnes), compared to 28% in H1 2022. Eurocell’s medium-term ambition is to increase the proportion of recycled material used to 33%. “We anticipate that profits in H2 will benefit from lower input prices as well as operational cost savings already secured. However, we anticipate full year performance will be below our previous expectations,” added Waters. Profile sales fell by 1% due to

reduced RMI and weaker new-build activity – which was partially offset by market share gains. Building plastics was down 3%, with RMI volume in branches steady but subdued, it said. www.eurocell.co.uk

into Anton Paar under the TourqeTec name and the acquisition will be retroactive to 1 January, 2023. “The decisive factor for our decision to purchase Brabender was the know-how in the development and production of world-leading measuring instruments,” said Friedrich Santner, CEO of Anton Paar.
