Energy efficient resin dryers boost maximum throughput
ProTec Polymer Processing has launched two new resin dryers. The RDT-250
stationary resin dryer is for medium capacity material throughput, while the RDM-140/400 auxiliary dryer increases the maximum material throughput capacity of the series, according to the company. The RDT-250 stationary dry air dryer can
handle throughputs up to 200kg/h with an effective dry air throughput of 140 to 300m³/h. The dry air generator and drying bin are also of a new design. The drying bins, which are square on the outside and cylindrical on the inside, can be fitted together to form a compact

Graham Engineering is to lend equipment to Bluestar Silicones, in order to create a silicone extrusion line at its technical centre. The equipment includes an American Kuhne 1.5in Ultra RS silicone
lab extruder. The companies expect the collaboration to help their customers and prospective customers learn more about silicone materials, silicone extrusion equipment and processing. “American Kuhne silicone extruders are the most
advanced on the market today,” said Bob Waitt, marketing manager for Bluestar’s US medical market. “In concert with our silicone materials
expertise, we expect the collaboration to optimise our heat-cured rubber product processing performance.” The 226,000 sq ft technical centre includes clean
rooms and enhanced quality systems, and serves as Bluestar’s global centre of excellence for healthcare, medical and long-term implant grade silicones. Bluestar plans to launch three new medical, pharma, and implant grade heat-cured rubber product lines towards the end of this year. ❙

company’s series of energy-efficient mobile dry air dryers.
They are designed for drying medium capacity throughputs of flowable, hygroscopic polymer pellets and regrind. With an effective volume of 400 litres, the new dryer can achieve a throughput of up to 150kg/h depending on material – some 30% more than the previously largest RDM-100/300 auxiliary dryer with its volume of 300 litres. ❙

Feedscrew delivered with speed
Davis-Standard has delivered a new feedscrew to a US-based customer in around half the normal time. When Tempo Products
noticed falling output rates – and material inconsistency – on its Davis-Standard extruder, it realised that it needed a new feedscrew. However, it could not wait for the normal eight- or nine-week delivery time. “We are so engaged in
keeping up with business that we overlook periodic feedscrew maintenance,” said Rael Sacks, founder and co-owner of Tempo Products. Tempo uses the extruder
to process linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) and flexible PVC tubing for drip irrigation products, which are sold to major retailers throughout the USA. The company has a same-day shipping policy, making consistent, high-rate production a necessity. Davis-Standard managed
to deliver and install the new feedscrew – a replica of the original, but with a harder finish – within five weeks, keeping production timelines on track. “Once the new screw was
installed, everything was back to normal in five minutes,” said Sacks. “We definitely plan to do more frequent feedscrew and barrel checks to avoid this issue in the future.” ❙
