Right: Greiner is a specialist in dies for
window and technical profiles
as well as their ability to continuously accommodate the requirements of our production,” said Stefen Walter, technical director at Aluplast. The 500 tools that it has supplied to Aluplast are a
small proportion of the estimated 25,000 that Greiner has supplied since its inception. At last year’s K2016 exhibition, it presented a
modular tooling system called MPT Tooling, which can range from a basic version to one that incorporates many upgrades – so can be equipped for extrusion ranging from continuous operation to small batch production. The company also recently opened a service centre
in Poland – due to the fact that the country has grown to become one of the most important centres for plastic profile production. The centre is based centrally – in Teresin, near Warsaw. “Our Polish staff are extrusion specialists with many
years of experience in the industry,” said Christian Nistlberger, regional sales director. “We provide our customers with support in their own language, which increases quality and efficiency when clearing technical details.”

Crosshead adjustment Guill Tool has introduced a new variant of its 500 Series crosshead, to include an adjustment system for gum space.
The 500 Series is designed specifically for the flow
characteristics and processing challenges of elasto- meric compounds. Its mechanically assisted gum space (Mags)
adjustment system allows the operator to make adjustments from a single point using a socket wrench. There is no need to struggle with multiple nuts and bolts in order to adjust the gum space. A visual indicator on the core tube shows how far the gum space has been moved, making the adjustments much more accurate and repeatable. The cam lock design of the new 500 Series means that no time is wasted unbolting and re-securing fasteners for disassem-
bly and re-assembly. Only half of a rotation of the cam nut is needed to loosen and automatically extract the deflector from the head body, which also saves time. Also, with no undercuts on the deflector, there are no material hang-ups when extracting the deflector, ensuring faster and easier cleaning and changeover. The crosshead also features a centre-stage concen- tricity adjustment system that reduces pressure on the tooling, allowing easier and more precise concentricity adjustments without loosening the face bolts. Easy-Out inserts for the adjusting bolts also allow simple replacement of locked or damaged adjusting bolts, which further saves on repair and downtime. A cast aluminum, liquid-fed cooling sleeve helps the
user to switch out the cooling jacket quickly in the event of a line obstruction. The addition of a flow inlet channel reduces the shear and heat that is generated as the materials are being processed. This reduces head pressures, allowing the material to move through with more even flow. The new crosshead with Mags gum space adjustment
is a drop-in replacement on most existing NRM lines. However, this crosshead design can also be adapted to fit any extruder design or line layout, says Guill Guill says that all its crossheads are supplied with a
tool kit for assembly and disassembly, as well as a detailed operator’s instruction manual. It adds that its engineering team can help users in the implementation and operation of the new device.
