Polymer Testing & Analysis USA | event preview

Polymer testing and analysis techniques are the essential building blocks for successful plastics processing. With that in mind, we preview AMI’s first Polymer T

esting & Analysis conference in the US

Looking ahead to Polymer Testing & Analysis USA

With end users and consumers alike demanding products that are frequently smaller, smarter, stronger and safer, the pressure is increasing on plastics materials suppliers, product designers and material specifiers. To meet these new and more focused demands, it is essential to understand precisely how a material or compound will behave during processing and how finished products will respond to users and perform over time in their respective end-use environ- ments. Material data is the key to that understanding. With two successful European events already under the belt, Applied Market Information now takes its polymer testing conference to North America for the first time. Taking place in Pittsburgh, PA, US, on 19-20 September 2017, Polymer Testing & Analysis USA 2017 will provide attendees with an opportunity to discover and debate the latest innovations in polymer testing, characterisation and analysis. This high level event brings together leading testing specialists to discuss the latest advances in polymer analysis, application testing, material characterisation, and polymer degradation and failure. The conference also covers

advances in assessing the barrier performance and surface properties of polymer materials. In this article, we preview the event and take a closer look at the line-up of expert speakers.

Deformulation strategies Polymer Testing & Analysis USA 2017 will kick off with a look at deformulation strategies for polymers, plastics and their raw materials. This perspective will be presented by Dr Paula McDaniel, Business Develop- ment Director at Intertek. It will then move on with a discussion of standardisation in polymer analysis through reference to the ASTM D20 plastics committee, which will be given by Mark Lavach, Manager - Analyti- cal Chemistry at Arkema. Dr Marc-Antoine Thermitus, Senior Application Scientist at NETZSCH Instruments, will then review software advances for the analysis of polymers using differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis. The next session will take a closer look at assessing

long-term performance, with Dr Thomas Fabian, Research Manager at UL, focusing on the assessment
