US-based compounding newcomer Orion Perfor- mance Compounds started production of engineered plastics compounds at its new facility at Lugoff in South Carolina last month. The company says market demands for high-quality products combined with service and speed has driven the creation of the company and will differenti- ate it from competing businesses. It aims to offer sample lead times of two weeks and production lead times of four weeks. “The competing land- scape is not doing a good job taking care of custom- ers, not hitting delivery dates and not being responsive,” said Orion President Jim LeGacy,

lines and a custom-built single-screw compounding line. Together, they provide an initial capacity of 11,340 tonnes. The facility is said to be equipped to compound a wide range of materials,
formulations from renew- able, biobased, or rein- forced resins offering properties such as flame retardancy, electrical or thermal conductivity, lubrication or custom colour. It’s first nine customers operate in healthcare, fibres, industrial and consumer markets, according to LeGacy. �

Lubrizol to invest $150m in India
Specialty chemical manufac- turer Lubrizol plans to invest more than $150m in various projects in India, including breaking ground with local partner Grasim (part of the Aditya Birla Group) on the first phase of what it says will be the world’s largest CPVC production facility. The resin produced at the new 100,000 tonne plant at Vilayat will be used to manufacture products sold under Lubrizol’s FlowGuard Plus, Corzan and BlazeMas- ter brands. The company also plans to double its existing CPVC compound capacity at Dahej in Gujarat and to set up an R&D and technology centre there. Lubrizol said the invest-
