FEEDING AND DOSING | MATERIALS HANDLING

model, which achieved OEB 5 certification, is said to be one of the first OEB-certified feeders in the industry, according to the company. To ensure OEB 5 compliance, the

twin-screw feeder features specially designed sealing systems. The leak check opening in the twin gearbox is sealed with a sight glass to maintain functionality and to prevent ingredient leakage in the event of shaft seal failure. Quick-re- lease fasteners on the lid, hopper, and screw tube of the OEB version of the DDSR20 2.0 can only be opened using tools, thereby preventing accidental opening, but are designed to remain in place on the feeder when it is being disassembled. Standardised components allow the OEB version to be easily converted to other model specifications within the DDSR twin screw and DSR single screw feeder product lines. A kit is also available to convert a standard feeder to the OEB version. Kubota Brabender Technologie also showed two new NX feeders from Kubota’s Precision Equipment business unit, as well as the universal FlexWall gravimetric feeder, a liquid feeder, a fibre feeder, and a DS model feeder specially designed for pellets. The company also highlighted its device generation 2.0 concept. This features improved sealing systems, precision screw tubes and screws, standard flange clamps, transparent dust-tight vertical outlets, and updated servo motors and gear modules. Blending technology specialist Maguire has

expanded its MGF gravimetric line with four new versions that offer additional flexibility with increased and optimised performance. The new MGF+ models are based on the standard Maguire Gravimetric Feeder (MGF) line, which the company says accurately dispenses colour and additives.

MGF units feature a powder coated, light- weight aluminum hopper mounted on twin load cells, which the company says ensures maximum accuracy and control by measuring the weight of the hopper and material only, rather than the complete feeder assembly and motor. The MGF employs a stepper motor-driven auger offered in three sizes to provide dosing accuracy to ±0.2%. Minimum dispense amounts

range from 0.25g to 5g, depending on auger size and unit configuration, with feed rates extending from 0.18 kg/hr to

55 kg/hr. The MGF+ 100L incorporates up to four

different size auger feeders and includes a virgin hopper on the twin load cells. All materials are weighed (100%) and the additive components are proportioned to the primary component, regardless of changing throughput. This model is suited for extrusion applications, the company says. The MGF+ 100X takes the process control a step

further by including an extrusion control package, where

the extruder drive control is managed with the same touch-screen controller as the hopper and the feeders. It includes a centre loss-in-weight hopper along with up to four auger feeders. The MGF+ 100B unit is suited for injection moulding applications and is designed with no centre hopper, so all materials run through the feeders. It includes a material collection bin with level sensor that maintains material levels. Maguire has also extended its lineup of volu- metric feeders with the introduction of the MVF, which it says is its most economical volumetric model. The unit is designed for simple volumetric dosing of colour concentrate and/or additive materials. It uses a simple digital push button setpoint control and a stepper motor to provide consistent letdown ratio without the use of a load cell. Conversion kits are available to upgrade the MVF model to full gravimetric capability.
