unit should material bridging or ratholes occur. The new ProFlow bulk solid activator improves feeder performance with controlled vibrations of the hopper. It is designed to manage moderate to poor flowing powders and flakes and can be used with both single and twin screw feeders. The ProFlow unit consists of an electromagnetic

vibrating device, which activates the feed hopper to promote material flow. The device operates at an optimised frequency and amplitude to ensure minimal energy consumption and maximum product flow. Its smart electronic control reduces electricity usage to a claimed 3.6W and the unit has no wear parts. There is also no additional clean- ing effort required as it is mounted outside of the product contact area. The ProFlow unit can be installed on new equipment or as a mounting unit on existing feeders. It is available for all ProRate Plus (S, M, L, MT) models. All ProRate Plus feeder models are equipped with P-SFT load cells, featuring Smart Force Transducer single wire weighing technology for better accuracy. These digital load cells have a sampling rate of 56.25 samples per second and a resolution of 1:500,000. For exam- ple, the P-SFT-M load cell, with a weighing capacity of 60 kg, measures values to within 0.12 grams. Each feeder also comes with its own pre-wired

and pre-tested PCM control module, which is mounted to the feeder stand. Most feeders only need a basic motor control unit while one feeder group of eight is equipped with an advanced control version featuring an integrated user interface and line control functionality. Coperion K-Tron says the ProRate feeders are highly standardised, with many parts identical and able to be used as exchange parts for models of any size in the product line. This standardisation benefits the customer by providing a feeder of reliable quality at a highly competitive price, it claims. A patent-pending ProClean Rail system allows for simple access for cleaning and mainte- nance, even within a cluster of feeders. It makes it possible to retract the base unit toward the rear of the feeder and rotate it for access to the feeding section and screw element, while keeping the other feeders in position. In addition, the bellows

and screws on the unit incorporate magnet technology for simple yet robust mounting (the magnet connections allow tool-free release).

Compact dosing New to the Moretto line-up is the DPK 8 dosing system, which is designed as a compact loss-in- weight system that minimises overdosing of additives and colorants and completes the company’s range of loss-in-weight feeders for dosing small quantities of materials. The company says the load cell technology and control algorithm installed in the unit delivers a dosing accuracy up to +/- 0.03%. Like other models in the DPK line, the DPK 8 is

fitted with a hopper produced in transparent shockproof acrylic vinyl, which makes the content and loading level immediately visible and is said to avoid material stagnation on the hopper walls. The hopper is also easily interchangeable without tools, allowing for quick

recipe changes. Moretto has also expand- ed the range of dosing units in its DGM Gravix series to include a new DGM 20 model, which is specifically created for micro dosing applica- tions. The unit features a double eyelid shutter

capable of opening and closing in 25ms. This, combined with the company’s Rotopulse technol- ogy and Vibration Immunity System (VIS), is said to ensure consistent micro dosing while installed on a processing machine.

Expanding presence Gravimetric and volumetric bulk materials feeder producer Kubota expanded its presence in the sector last year with the acquisition of Duisburg, Germany-based Brabender Technologie, which is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Kubota Holdings Europe. The move is intended to combine Kubota’s strengths in gravimetric feeders in the Asian market with Brabender Technologie’s technology and sales networks in Europe and America. At last year’s K show,Kubota Brabender

Technologie presented a dust-tight Occupational Exposure Bands (OEB) version of its DDSR20 2.0 twin screw feeder, which is suited for the handling requirements of hazardous materials and is suitable for applications such as battery manufacturing. The
