International Mushroom Days in Xiamen

The ‘2020 International Mushroom Days (Xiamen)’, an upgraded - but due to COVID less international - version of the Chinese Mushroom Days organised before in Zhangzhou, was held in Fliport Convention and Exhibition Center in Xiamen, China, from November 19 to 21, 2020.

T

he trade show, combined with a professional forum, workshop and training course made this event a great success, according to the

organisers, who called it ‘an industry event for the entire industry chain of mushroom in the post-epidemic era, fully integrating technology, equipment, products, capital, talents, policies, channels, as well as cutting-edge information and advanced concepts’.

COVID effects

The beautiful seaside venue proved to be a great choice, with a modern feel and good infrastruc- ture. The COVID-19 pandemic, of course, had effects on the event, besides its rescheduling and relocating. For one thing, strict control and health codes were implemented, and participants had to wear face masks to enter. Furthermore,

there were almost no international visitors because of quarantine measures, André Verbeek (Sylvan) and Peter Gubbels (GTM) being the exception. Perhaps because of this, there also seemed to be less attention to white button cultivation than usual, and almost all lectures were in Chinese.

The event was hosted as always by the China Chamber of Commerce of I/E of Foodstuffs, Native Produce and Animal By-products (CFNA). 24 companies and individuals sponsored this event, such as Shanghai Xuerong Biology, Jiangsu Li Sha Fungi, Sylvan and Tianshui Zhongxing Mushroom Technology. There were more than 2,000 participants and nearly 6,000 entries into the exhibition area. As before, the volunteers (60) played an important role in making the event a big success. Overseen, as always, by the profes- sional guidance of Mr. Liu Zi Qiang and his team.

Kingfit has always one of the bigger booths at the fair, and Xiamen was no exception. Here, the Kingfit team poses with Mr Liu.
