form. If there is still a lot of unabsorbed water on the surface of the casing, there is a high risk of bacterial blotch developing. The softer the casing is, the faster it absorbs water, which reduces the severity of the problem. Maintai- ning the softness of the casing depends on the quantity and quality of mycelium and CAC material in the casing. I have already described this. But with drier casing, it’s important to get rid of this unabsorbed water fast. How? By applying the entire volume of water immedia- tely after the flush and not spreading watering over two days. After watering, the surface of the casing should be dry after approximately 24 hours. You can confirm this by checking if the surface is slick and shiny with moisture or by placing your hand on the casing to feel if it is wet (see photo). Dry the surface by increasing the fan speed and lowering the RH to 80%. What it boils down to is ensuring the casing soil surface is dry. Once that has been achieved, the RH can be slowly increased again, for example 1-2% per day, to about 86%, and the fan speed can be decreased. The important thing is to avoid the casing soil drying out and makes sure there are no scales on the mushrooms.
