propionic acid, enabling a prolonged effect and safer handling 3. An emulsifier This supports better spread and may facilitate the intake of organic acids inside the mould cells 4. Phytochemicals These compounds derived from palm splitting have proven high synergy with propionic acid.
What results were you able to achieve and what synergy was achieved? Dr. Nanda: Compared to solutions such as buffered propionic acid and emulsifiers combined with phytochemical ingredi- ents, we were able to demonstrate an improved efficacy with ActiProp. We tested its synergistic effect in Fylax Forte-HC liq- uid on two of the most common fungi in the world: Aspergil- lus and Penicillium. The efficacy of buffered propionic acid was compared with ActiProp to evaluate the percentage of the fungal cells penetrated by ingredients. Findings showed an extraordinary percentage of increased penetrated cells for both mould species-- as high as 373%.
What other effects does ActiProp have? Dr Nanda: In addition to inhibiting moulds, the emulsifier in Fylax Forte-HC liquid helps reduce the surface tension of hy- drated solutions. This allows the hydrated solution of the product to penetrate deeper into the feed particles during feed production. Benefits include improved gelatinisation due to better heat penetration, higher levels of bound mois- ture and extended shelf life as the product prevents recontamination during transport and feed storage.
