ritish teams gave incredible performances in both the men’s and women’s America’s Cup this year in Barcelona. Ben Ainslie’s INEOS Britannia became the first British team to win an America’s Cup Challenger Series, and the first to race in the Match Final in 60 years. They were ultimately defeated by New Zealand. The inaugural Women’s America’s Cup saw Athena Pathway, skippered by Hannah Mills (inset), finish just eight seconds behind the Italian winners. RYA sporting pathways were vital in these successes, with five of the seven Athena Pathway sailors and 60 percent of INEOS Britannia’s crew coming from RYA racing and British Sailing Team pathways. All Athena Pathway’s youth sailors came through the RYA pathway.
