‘People are still booking in the normal sailing season [November to April] but you can sail up until July,’ says Tommy, referring to the onset of hurricane season in June and July. ‘We’ve seen an increase in the pre-
hurricane season inquiries, for June and July,’ says Marin, ‘but the Atlantic hurricane season runs from 1 June to 30 November. be out there – or charter companies willing to take the risk,’ says Tommy. Although Lyn adds: ‘Low season is very competitively priced, with fewer crowds; the weather is still hot, flights cheaper, and anchorages less busy, so it’s more affordable to many.’ ‘Certain sailing grounds here are the best places to escape the crowds,’ says Marin. ‘You are reducing the number of people you interact with – a social- distancing norm in this strange time.’ ‘People are out sailing, but it’s a fraction of those that would be out there normally,’ says Tommy. ‘Taking a charter yacht, though, is the perfect antidote to the misery we’ve endured!’
