Assessments
There are three assessment papers and one appraisal paper which need to be completed: Chartwork (2 hours)
• Covers chartwork skills including position fixing using various methods, course and passage planning and tidal height calculations
IRPCS Assessment (1.5 hours)
• An advanced test of your understanding and application of the rules of the road, vessel lights, sound signals and any other aspects of the colregs.
Passage Making – Pre-Assessment Appraisal (recommended time is no more than 2 hours)
• Not an assessment in itself but preparatory work for the subsequent Passage Making Assessment. This is not marked by your instructor.
Passage Making Assessment (3.5 hours)
• Preparation of a passage plan using the work you prepared in the appraisal followed by scenario-based questions about the execution and monitoring of the passage.
