Part one
Plan a route from an open water waypoint (46°10´.89N 006°15´.15W) to the approach waypoint for Parvin Sound, found in the Training Almanac. Date: Sunday, 29th September.
Starting time: 1020 DST. The plan should include the following:
• Key waypoints along the route • Overall distance and individual leg distances • Tidal streams • The approximate passage time • Choose one of the following boat speeds 6kts/12kts/18kts • Allow for the effect of the current • The height of the tide at Parvin Sound for the estimated time of arrival, minus a time period of your choosing to allow for a late or early arrival • Shipping and traffic • Regulations / restrictions / warnings • Hazards on route, include strategies for hazard avoidance.
Part two
Draw a pilotage sketch/diagram from the approach waypoint off Parvin Sound to the visitors moorings off Murray Village. The drawing should include the following:
• Visual verification of the approach waypoint’s position • Buoyage/navigation aids through the sound • Key distances and bearings to follow • Safe depths, allow for the height of tide • Hazards/obstructions • The depth of water at the moorings, on arrival and at the next LW
