1.
A vessel is approaching Jackson Bay from the NW, following a leading bearing of 135°(M) on the summit east of Jacksonville.
a) Plot the leading bearing. b) Choose and plot suitable clearing bearings on the summit, to ensure the rocks either side of Jackson Bay are avoided.

A vessel is off Avalon Head in calm conditions when visibility descends to approximately ½ mile. Suggest a plan that would enable the vessel to be safely navigated towards Sweetwater Bay.
The plan should include, but does not need to be limited to, the following:
a) Choosing a safe contour line that will help to lead the vessel towards Sweetwater. b) Overall distance and key waypoints between Avalon Head and the entrance to Sweetwater Bay.
3. A vessel is to the east of Karle Island (Dymond Reef) at night.
a) Plot a back bearing on Cape Saint Vincent light to enable the vessel to pass safely between Dymond Reef and the mainland while heading southwards. b) Suggest how depth could be used as a backup to ensure the vessel doesn’t stray towards the rocky shallows on either side of the passage. c) How would the crew know when the vessel could be turned towards the west?
4.
A vessel is anchored in Beauty Bay for the night. Prepare a plan to enable the vessel to depart the anchorage in the dark if required.
