36/ AUGUST / SEPTEMBER 2022 THE RIDER The 2022 Great Lakes Carriage Classic After a two year hiatus Tri-
County Carriage Association was very excited to host The Great Lakes Carriage Classic (GLCC) on July 30/31 at the An- caster Fairgrounds. Nicole Cable from New York State and Fran- cois Bergeron from Quebec offi- ciated as competitors in eight divisions enjoyed two days of competition. On the first day both the stone dust ring and the Agricultural Event Centre were used. On day two all competition moved into the new arena, where the footing was excellent and all enjoyed the well lit, spacious fa-
cility. Saturday at noon a carriage
parade offered an opportunity to educate the public on the differ- ent vehicles and equines used in the sport. A ride and drive class and carriage dog class completed Saturday’s offerings. On Sunday an international class featured turnouts from different countries and youth were allowed to par- ticipate in a class where they di- rected an experienced driver over an obstacle course. Vendors offered a wide va-
riety of products for sale throughout the show and Mike
Chennette of McGinny Photog- raphy captured some great mo- ments. Social events included a buffet steak dinner catered by Alice’s Restaurants and the Award Ceremony on Sunday had a complimentary box meal. This year The TCCA High
Point Trophy, The Remley Con- cours d’Elegance Trophy and the Helen Southgate Memorial Tro- phy for the highest point Welsh pony were all won by Megan Sorensen of Caledon and her large Welsh pony Winding Oaks Fauna. The Reserve High Point Champion was Vicki Dickson of
Puslinch with Leo, a large Welsh pony. The Friesian trophy was taken by Klaas Steenbeek of Clinton with Doutzen. Divi- sional winners included: Horse - Karen McCrea, VSE - Carolyn Aarup, Small Pony - Vicki Cork, Large Pony – Megan Sorensen, Pair - Darryl Billing, Coach As- sisted - Diana Hildreth, Utility Horse - Klaas Steenbeek and Utility Pony - Monica Lamothe. The Show Committee
would like to thank the many volunteers who made this year’s show possible. Their efforts made the show fun and enjoy- able for all. Plans have already started for the 2023 GLCC and once finalized will be available on the club website
www.tri-
countycarriage.com. Hope to see you all there in 2023!
