STEP INSIDE BATHROOMS A Lather Of Luxury

When you think of bathroom flooring, ceramic or real stone tiles may seem like the obvious option. However, here Stella Coyle, National Sales Manager of Karndean Designflooring, states why LVT can be a great alternate choice.

When it comes to bathrooms, it makes sense to have a space that is, first and foremost, functional. But, like any other room in the home, it should still be one to be proud of; whether you have a chic and compact en-suite or a large family bathroom.

Karndean Designflooring is a smart, effective choice for bathroom flooring, providing home decorators with the ultimate protection from splashes and spills. Luxury vinyl tile (LVT) is also practical for everyday use, easy to clean, and perfect for recreating the latest trends, so it’s possible to have the best of both worlds.

The regular chore of cleaning the bathroom is one nobody looks forward to – while the thought of a glistening powder room sounds appealing, the hours of scrubbing do not. Fortunately, choosing Karndean means that homeowners can have a beautiful looking floor that they only need to treat to a simple mop and sweep every now and again to keep it fresh and germ free.

“The flooring you

recommend can actually make a room feel more open than possible.”

A popular flooring choice for bathrooms, due to their aesthetic appeal, is real stone tiles, but they usually come hand in hand with grout lines, which attract mildew. This can be really difficult to clean without using harsh chemicals, which is certainly not ideal for a home with young children or pets. With Karndean, it’s possible to achieve a beautiful straight lay or brick bond tile effect with our design strips, which are available in several different colours and can be used to recreate the grouting effect. The days of scrubbing between the tiles with a toothbrush are long gone, as the strips are cut to the same thickness as the floor of choice, creating a seamless surface with no grime or dirt traps. Not only can design strips enhance the design of the floor, they don’t require any special attention or extra maintenance.

Laminate flooring may also be easy to clean, but it doesn’t always repel water – Karndean is fully waterproof and won’t swell, crack or warp when it’s wet. All our products are also highly slip-resistant, offering home decorators extra reassurance.

Occasionally bathrooms can be on the small side compared to other rooms in the home, but there are plenty of ways to make the most of this space, regardless of its size. The flooring you recommend can actually make a room feel more open than they thought possible, so they needn’t settle on feeling cramped. Even a small space can make a big impact.

It’s no secret that lighter colours make a room seem more airy and spacious, so you could encourage your customers towards a light tone flooring, such as our Korlok Texas White Ash or LooseLay Longboard Bleached Tasmanian Oak. It’s no longer all about stone flooring in the bathroom – our authentic wood designs look fantastic and have all the same practical benefits as our stone designs. If your customer is feeling concerned that pale colours could make the bathroom feel too clinical, reassure them that they can add pops of colour here and there, such as plants, towels and other small accessories, so they retain that bright, fresh look but keep it homely at the same time.

Karndean can be laid in various directions, so why not suggest a diagonal format as this will trick the eyes into a different perspective, making the space feel larger. Alternatively, if the customer has a narrow yet long bathroom, the floor may be best laid parallel to the longest wall, as this will elongate the space and offer the best visual impact.

It is also possible to create an impression of never ending space by using similar neutral colours on the flooring and the walls. This will make the bathroom appear less busy, cleaner and ultimately larger.

Why not show your customers our augmented reality app, which will let them see how any of our floors will look in their home? Alternatively, our Style Finder online tool will help them to narrow down their choices after answering a few simple questions.
