Experienced Floor Fitter Discovers The Master Installer Difference

After an intensive three-day course, Kris Keegan, Founder of Scotland- based Doors & Floors, is accredited as a Quick-Step Master Installer, benefitting his customers with a lifetime workmanship warranty on all Quick-Step wood and laminate floor installations.

Kris founded Doors & Floors with his wife, Maria, who now runs the recently opened showroom in Bathgate, West Lothian. The couple were keen to ensure that customers were provided with the very best in installation and so, having heard of the Quick-Step Master Installer programme, Kris chose to book a place on the course.

Kris explained: “I started installing floors of all kinds when I was 16 years old, before spending time as a joiner and then finding my way back to flooring once again. For the last four or five years, I’ve been focused solely on the installation of doors and wood and laminate flooring throughout the area, working for my own customers, as well as operating as a sub-contractor

Ocean Media Group Buys The Flooring Show

The Flooring Show, the UK’s national flooring event, which marked its 55th edition this year, has been purchased by Ocean Media Group, provider of exhibitions, events, awards and specialist publications.

Owned and organised by Wendy Adams for the past five years, the show has undergone a period of regeneration and growth under her management and is now gearing up for its 2018 edition, which will run on 16th-18th September at the Harrogate Convention Centre.

The Flooring Show is the biggest event in the industry’s calendar.

“With the opening of my new showroom, I wanted to make sure that I was offering the best in workmanship and, with the lack of an industry qualification that’s recognised by consumers, signing up to the Master Installer scheme seemed the obvious thing to do.”

Joining two other experienced installers at the Academy for Excellence in Flooring, Greater Manchester, Kris improved his product knowledge, honed skills and learnt some new tricks of the trade, becoming a registered Master Installer after continued assessment by the Quick-Step trainers.

“The investment in the programme has already paid off and the Master Installer badge has certainly had a hugely positive impact on my direct and sub- contract business.

“Being a Master Installer helps me to bargain with customers when they have received lower quotes for fitting work elsewhere and it also instils a real sense of confidence that they are receiving the very best installation for their new Quick-Step floor. The lifetime

It brings together the retail and contract sectors and key industry bodies such as the Contract Flooring Association, the National Institute of Carpet & Floorlayers and the Flooring Industry Training Association. It is widely recognised as a key sales and networking event for the industry and all the Associations have pledged their continued support for the show and its new owners.

Wendy commented: “The Flooring Show is a great event which will benefit from being part of such a well-respected organiser. Ocean Media’s forward- thinking leadership, proven experience and extensive resources will allow us to maximise the potential of the show.”

warranty is certainly a major attraction for them and I’m sure it has been a deciding factor more than once. In fact, the businesses I sub-contract to have asked for cards bearing my status as a Master Installer that they can display or pass on to customers. I really would have no hesitation in recommending becoming a Master Installer to anyone who’s determined to build a career in the industry,” added Kris.

Ocean Media Group’s Managing Director, Tim Willoughby, added: “The Flooring Show, with its long heritage in the industry, is well supported by suppliers and retailers and it will be our job to ensure the show remains relevant and deserving of that support.

“Ocean Media has a strong history of developing specialist events, and we’re delighted to welcome the Flooring Show into our portfolio. With Wendy and her team remaining in place to work with us on the 2018 show and beyond, we are confident all involved will benefit from this new arrangement and we will deliver a seamless transition over the coming year.”
