FOCUS ON CARPETS, RUGS & ACCESSORIES The Magic of Carpets

Flooring and furniture specialist United Carpets & Beds shares its expert predictions for the carpet trends set to dominate the market in 2018.

While it may seem as though wood and laminate flooring looks dominate the market, carpet as a whole is having a resurgence in terms of sales in the UK with a 2.2% increase in like for like sales in the flooring industry in 2016, to reach £969.3 million. This is due to the number of modern finishes, colours, styles and price points on offer within the carpet industry, meaning customers are sure to find something to best suit their needs while also allowing for additional comfort. Innovation is taking place within the industry with things such as waterproof carpets and 100% stain resistance on the horizon, and we at United Carpets & Beds believe the top trends for the upcoming year will include:

The use of neutral tones helps to create smoother transitions between different types of flooring or rooms within the home, allowing for a flow that is easy on the eye and doesn’t draw attention. We have already mentioned that grey momentum is in full effect, but there is also a rise in colours such as taupe and beige as they coordinate so easily with many different types of décor.

A Pop Of Pattern

Seemingly cast aside over the last 20 years, a look making a comeback back in a big way recently is that of patterned carpets. The wide range of designs available today allow for a subtle, or not so subtle, yet distinctive look in homes. From naturally inspired leaves and bark finishes to chunky geometric patterns with splashes of colour, customers can create their vision for a contemporary décor with ease.

Shades Of Grey

This trend is not going away anytime soon! Grey has very much been adopted as a neutral and is here to stay.

Earn Your Stripes

Increasingly popular of late, we anticipate this trend growing further this year. Most popular for hallways, landings and stairs, there is no one particular colour combination or stripe thickness leading the way, but the overall theme is on the up.

Bold and Beautiful

Regardless of the room size, a vivid carpet colour can help to make a bold statement. Not only does it help to brighten up a room, but it is also an easy way of adding a true touch of personality. Bold shades are not often used throughout a whole home, with many people instead opting for splashes of colour in rooms such as the living room, bedrooms or playroom.

Twist and Shout

Twist pile carpets are hugely popular as they are extremely durable and resilient to everyday wear and tear, without flattening or looking crushed. Known for its slightly shaggier look, it allows for a distinguished yet not overly formal look and feel to a room. Its slightly crimped construction also makes it easier to conceal dirt and crumbs, but they are also very easy to clean.

More Than a Feeling

An easy way to add character and personality to a room, we are seeing more and more customers select carpet based on feel and effect. Textured flooring can add understated character, easily and subtly.

Out on the Tiles

No longer just seen in offices, carpet tiles are available in a huge number of colours, finishes and effects, and, most notably, they are incredibly easy to lay which makes them a DIY dream. Carpet tiles also allow for easy swapping out of stained or damaged areas, perfect for homes with pets and games rooms or basements.
