EMERGENCY EVACUATIONS

SCORE & PEACE

Colin Dale, VP Business Development, Vismo Global Tracking Solutions, discusses how they’re addressing emergency evacuations and other security issues during the World Cup in Russia.

The World Cup will soon be upon us, bringing with it potentially very heavy demands on security systems and personnel in the host country. Russia is not being inward- looking about maximising security at venue cities – and anywhere else in the country that might attract hooligans, muggers/thieves and terrorists.

Russia is welcoming technical expertise from abroad to help respond to situations of duress and ensure that appropriate resources are directed to where they are needed in the speediest time possible.

Warnings directed at fans, VIP attendees, sponsors, media teams and footballers themselves are highlighted on UK government websites, where the spiking of drinks leading to robbery, violence and abuse is one concern, the risk of terrorist incidents another.

Implementing tight and highly responsive security across a huge geographic area with widely dispersed football venues is a challenge that is being met with help from companies like York-based Vismo. Of special interest is our new Mass Notification Service [MNS], VismoMessaging, developed for use on multi communication platforms for iPhones and android and Windows phones - and satellite phones where they are considered necessary.

The MNS enables any number of SMS, email, voice, text- to-voice messages - and in-app notifications - to be sent to users of the Vismo Global Tracking App, advising them of any action to take in a crisis, including how to ensure they are evacuated by Vismo’s partners and other rescue forces in an emergency.

Users can initiate action themselves by pressing the app’s panic button, which will link to security centres inside and outside Russia and gain an immediate response.

COLLABORATION AGREEMENT WITH

RUSSIA’S ELITE SECURITY A key element for response by security and emergency services in a country the size of Russia is ensuring they can respond rapidly. We have acted on that by signing a collaboration agreement with Moscow-headquartered

54

Elite Security, which is well established and has ‘feet on the ground’ in the host cities and elsewhere. In addition to having its own security teams, Elite Security works emergency personnel where required.

Dmitry Budanov, CEO, Elite Security, commented: “A core and integral part of our Emergency Response Service is our Rapid Response Unit, staffed by English-speaking teams made up of highly trained, discreet security specialists who are available 24 hours per day, 365 days a year.

“The partnership with Vismo allows a Rapid Response Team to be dispatched with one touch of the Vismo panic button without the need for a direct call, saving valuable time and therefore helping us and Vismo to optimise any response.”

EXPERIENCE Vismo is well placed to be helping with security for the World Cup. The company has had a presence in Russia since 2012 and its app has been used to successfully to monitor teams, coaching staff, media organisations and corporate VIPs at similar events, such as the London 2012 Olympics and at the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil. Vismo also helps companies and NGOs in high risk areas of the world, and where risks are lower but still a threat.

EMERGENCY EVACUATIONS If an emergency evacuation is required in Russia, Vismo, with Elite Security, will liaise with emergency services to share information and help ensure resources are used as effectively and quickly as possible.

The Vismo App uses patented technology to give highly accurate location information about where app users are, via commonly used software, to all services involved in meeting a crisis head on and resolving it.

We expect a robust response on the ground to any such situation during the World Cup. An emergency evacuation involving app users will include the use of the MNS to send instructions about how, when and where an evacuation will happen. Included will be details of flights and/or other means of transport.
