Anti-Fatigue Mats by First Mats

Safety matting specialists, First Mats, have expanded their range of anti-fatigue mats to include various custom-sized versions.

Anti-fatigue mats are commonly used in the workplace to provide comfort for employees who are on their feet all day; typically working at a lathe, workbench, or in packaging area roles along with standing desk users. Many suppliers only offer anti-fatigue mats in a limited range of standard sizes, which, although fine for individual workstations, is not ideal for larger working areas such as production lines or manufacturing cells.

The First Mats range includes anti-fatigue mats in various roll widths, usually 90cm or 120cm. Customers can choose their required length in centimetres, and First Mats will cut the mat accordingly, professionally finishing the edges to guarantee a top-quality product.

Richard O’Connor, Strategic Marketing Director for First Mats Ltd. said: “We aim to provide our customers with a mat for every working environment, wet or dry, light or heavy-duty, and now in a length of their choosing.”

The range of anti-fatigue mats that First Mats supplies have been specially developed to combat the effects of fatigue, providing a more comfortable working environment that ultimately leads to improved staff morale and increased productivity.

When standing on an anti-fatigue mat, the leg muscles are made active by the small movements that the worker makes unconsciously in order to remain upright. That muscle activity helps to encourage better blood circulation, thus reducing the effects of fatigue. Also, the soft surface that the anti-fatigue mat provides increases user comfort.

Category 1 Face Visor by Regency Design

Regency Design launched a new PPE Category 1 Face Visor this year as part of a series of innovations to support key workers in current and future crises.

The highly-durable visors, which are CE marked to demonstrate conformity with health, safety and environmental protection standards for products sold within the EU, have already been delivered in their tens of thousands to various NHS Test Centres and Trusts throughout the UK as part of the company’s commitment to protecting essential staff.

The product comprises a clear, polycarbonate panel with a soft foam head-band worn with a Velcro adjustable strap. It has anti- fogging properties and features very high-quality optics with no distortion, enabling it to be used in all vital scenarios, from bus and coach drivers to medics.

The visors are designed to be multi-use and can be easily cleaned. They also allow a logo to be incorporated into the headband design, as well as providing a space to write the owner’s name and/or other important information such as the date on which the visor was issued.

Zak Manhire, Chief Commercial Officer, said: “Feedback to date on the comfort and performance of the visors has been excellent and we are now looking at using our proven design and manufacturing skills to innovate other products that will be needed for this crisis and beyond.”

Regency Design achieved national fame in 2018 for its role in the ‘There but not There’ commemorative campaign, producing the ghostly silhouettes for the Royal British Legion to represent The Fallen of the first world war. More recently it designed and produced the ‘footprints’ to commemorate the D-Day landings.

COVID-19 ‘Fit-to-Work’ App by Anvil Group

A new app developed by global travel and operational risk company, Anvil Group, prompts employees to self-certify that they are free of COVID-19 symptoms before coming into work, enabling employers to reduce the potential for infection in the workplace.

Available on iOS and Android devices, the app takes employees through a series of simple questions relating to the main COVID-19 symptoms recognised by the UK National Health Service, and delivers an initial diagnosis based on the answers submitted. The app lets employees know whether they are deemed safe to enter their workplace or should stay at home and await further instructions. Employees’ self-certification results are immediately sent to their employer, enabling employers to remain compliant with health and safety legislation and identify any potential cases early.

The app has been designed to help businesses, particularly those with at least 50 employees and limited HR or health and safety resources, who may be struggling to cope with managing the increased measures introduced, to ensure workforce safety.

The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) has updated its guidance regarding reporting cases of COVID-19 under the Reporting of Injuries, Disease and Dangerous Occurrence Regulations 2013 (RIDDOR). Anvil’s Fit to Work app helps organisations to demonstrate that they have implemented a ‘safe system of work’ to mitigate against the spread of COVID-19.

Alongside the Fit to Work app, Anvil Group has also introduced a range of other COVID-19 support services including client, industry and country specific information; daily reports and medical fact sheets; educational webinars; additional occupational health services; and antibody testing.
