Carpet Recycling UK is a not-for-profit membership association working throughout the supply chain to increase the reuse and recycling of carpet waste across the UK and to develop viable solutions to the 400,000 tonnes of carpet waste landfilled in the UK each year. Recovery of fibres such as wool, polypropylene and nylon is creating new opportunities for their reuse in a broad range of end uses from equestrian surfaces to textile felts, new underlay and building products. Recycling capacity has increased in response to the growth in specialist facilities able to handle carpets in reuse, recycling and energy recovery processes. In the UK, there are now more than 30 specialist outlets contributing to these total diversion routes. In 2013, CRUK beat its landfill diversion target two years early with a 27% diversion rate. CRUK’s new target is 60% landfill diversion by 2020. Enquiries are welcomed from all types of organisations interested in finding new outlets for waste carpet.
