FI RE SAFE T Y

Sponsored by PTSG FIRING ON ALL CYLINDERS

As one part of the PTSG Group’s four divisions, PTSG Fire Solutions Ltd offer a comprehensive range of safety solutions. Here, the company takes us through some of its offerings.

PTSG Fire Solutions Ltd is part of Premier Technical Services Group (PTSG), a UK-based provider of specialist services to the construction and FM sectors. The Group has four business divisions, which can operate independently or combine to deliver a complete solution for customers in all industry sectors.

PTSG Fire Solutions Ltd is the newest and fastest-growing of the Group’s four divisions. It was formed when PTSG acquired UK Dry Risers Ltd and UK Dry Risers Maintenance Ltd in 2016.

This was subsequently consolidated with several other acquisitions including UK Sprinklers Ltd. (UKS) in Bury and M&P Fire Protection Ltd, based in Maidstone. This gave the Group a comprehensive provision of fire prevention and suppression services spanning the full length of the country.

Fire and security systems The acquisition of Trinity Fire and Security Ltd in 2019 was the biggest in the Group’s history, boosting its customer base by 2,000 and its staff in excess of 1,200. It added ten more UK office locations to PTSG Fire Solutions Ltd, from Newcastle to Exeter, making its geographical coverage truly comprehensive.

Crucially, it also added a range of security services as well as service support, maintenance, and compliance and asset management. The application of security systems has been exemplified in the company’s work at the Heathrow Airport estate, which operates on a 24-hour basis and has been identified as the one of the world’s busiest airports.

Since 2011, Trinity (now part of PTSG Fire Solutions Ltd) has handled the fire detection and alarm systems around the airport, including terminals and the main control tower building. The team has established a close relationship with Heathrow Airport and its other service providers, resulting in a collaborative focus on support for the airport’s sustainability plan. Its aims include the reduction of emissions and water usage around the airport’s estate, plus the creation of 10,000 apprenticeships by 2030.

Team leader Adam Davies won the prestigious ‘Account Director of the Year’ trophy at the PFM Partnership Awards in November 2019. He commented: “After working on the account since 2011 and honing the systems in place there, we feel like an extension of the Heathrow team. That allows us to be 100% honest with each other, ensuring we’re all working in the same direction.”

Life-saving

sprinkler systems Sprinkler systems are a simple, cost-effective and highly reliable fire protection asset, proven to reduce injuries by at least 80% and property damage by 90%. To date, no one has ever died in a fire with a sprinkler system in the household.

The government’s announcement on 2nd April 2020 for mandatory sprinkler systems and consistent wayfinding signage in all new high-rise blocks of flats over 11 metres tall was warmly welcomed by PTSG Fire Solutions Ltd, whose engineers install and maintain sprinkler systems in residential and commercial buildings.

Steve Griffiths, Managing Director of UK Sprinklers, a constituent company of PTSG Fire Solutions, said: “It’s the most significant change to fire safety legislation in a generation. Reducing the threshold for buildings requiring residential fire sprinklers from 30 metres to 11 metres will safeguard residents in many more properties and potentially save a great many lives in the future.”

Other fire solutions Amongst PTSG’s other fire solutions are dry and wet risers, which play a vital role in protecting tall buildings. PTSG designs, installs, services and maintains bespoke and standard systems to ensure people and properties have the best level of protection.

PTSG also delivers fire hydrant testing and fire safety training, making its provision of fire solutions and security systems truly comprehensive.
