Nelson at St Anne’s Catholic Primary School, Wrexham

Nelson’s expertise was demonstrated in North Wales, where a passthrough dishwasher solution transformed school catering at St Anne’s Catholic Primary School in Wrexham, helping to meet increased demand for efficient meal service following the introduction of Universal Free School Meals for primary schools in Wales.

Tasked with replacing an outdated and unreliable passthrough dishwasher, Nelson designed a solution using the Nelson Advantage AD55 Passthrough Dishwasher, which delivered 30% savings in water and energy usage compared to the original machine.

Combining scale with reliability, the AD55 can wash 1,200 plates per hour, is double-skinned insulation to minimise heat loss and includes a shallow wash tank to ensure minimal water and energy usage.

Crucially in education environments, where sustainable solutions are increasingly sought- after, it requires only 2.9 litres of rinse water per cycle, which is then reused in the following wash cycles.

“In fact, we’re the only factory-to-door partner on a number of frameworks in the education sector including CPC, TUCO and LACA, scoring highest overall in the rigorous TUCO framework audit, so we’re in a great position to advise on how to get it right in this sector.”

The first important step, John says, is to specify the right equipment. This should be based on the findings of a comprehensive site survey, including a thorough assessment of water quality to ensure optimal performance, followed by tailored water treatment solutions to address specific issues and enhance overall efficiency.

John Nelson adds: “The findings of our site survey give us the insights we need to propose a tailored solution, but our relationship with customers doesn’t stop once that equipment has been installed. “It’s important to choose a supplier that can offer technical support and aftersales support too, so that you can have confidence that equipment is running smoothly, efficiently, to the best of its ability, and that support is available if there are any issues.”

As with all Nelson installations, this solution went beyond the efficient and eco-friendly machine.

John Nelson adds: “Our tailored installation and streamlined design, based on the findings of our comprehensive site survey, helped to minimise any disruptions. We also provided comprehensive staff training, covering usage and day-to-day maintenance of the best passthrough dishwasher system.

“Since installation, our team is available to St Anne’s seven days a week for breakdown and planned maintenance support, with additional support via phone or email for any minor technical issues.”
