teams and individuals that require training can access it in the way that works best for them.
BICSc Group Managing Director, Neil Spencer-Cook, said: “With BICSc training, candidates have the ability to start small and expand onto greater knowledge at their own pace. We have a variety of courses which can be taken face-to-face or online.
“We encourage candidates to start off by accessing our free courses on our Virtual Training Suite. This allows them access to a wealth of free content which they can enroll in at any time. Free courses consist of lessons in hand hygiene and explanations of the correct PPE to wear during cleaning tasks.
“We also have important lessons on a robust colour- coding system when cleaning. Teaching the use of different coloured equipment for different area types and stopping the risks of cross-contamination by implementing such a system cannot be more highly recommended.
“Once businesses have trained their staff with our free
courses, organisations will want to progress to our more in-depth courses and skills training. Our comprehensive courses cover topics such as cleaning science, health &
safety, and cross-contamination – allowing staff to build a good understanding of how to be safe when cleaning and how to protect customers by using the best cleaning methods. These courses are available to be taken online.”
Technology continues to aid training industry-wide with options to ensure greater accessibility. This was a key driver for the recent launch of the BICSc Training App.
Neil Spencer-Cook added: “The cleaning industry has one of the biggest diverse workforces of any industry. There are so many people within the industry who have so many different learning capabilities when it comes to IT.
“Learning online offers lots of flexible options and there are so many ways you can address the diverse workforce we have within the cleaning community, and it is important to recognise that every learner is different.
“It is important to give all candidates the choice of how
they want to train because everybody is different and has their own approach to learning and training.”
Audits are increasingly becoming a popular way to monitor cleaning standards, providing an in-depth report on service delivery, an approach which is beneficial to both client and contactor alike. Unlike a stand-alone cleaning inspection, an audit also focuses on processes and procedures in place and the results highlight any apparent risks and areas that might require improvement.
In facilities where audits are carried out regularly, it is proven that the quality of the cleaning improves, and, frequently, is the start of a cycle of continuing increased standards – the quality of cleaning improves, which increases morale and motivation of the cleaning operatives, which in turn encourages them on to improve on the previous report.
Across the industry it is widely acknowledged all audits are instrumental in helping increase operational standards and maintain them at higher levels. The BICSc Cleaning & Hygiene Audit App continues to help transform standards within the industry and is another technological tool helping raise standards within the professional cleaning sector. It includes an in-depth check of processes, systems, paperwork, policies, areas included in the cleaning specification, staff behaviours and appearance, and the standard of the equipment available to the cleaning operatives.
