Hello and welcome to the October issue of Tomorrow’s FM.

When I began my role as Editor of Tomorrow’s FM in January 2018, Carillion, the British multinational construction and facilities management services company, headquartered in Wolverhampton, went into liquidation. The collapse and insolvency of the company brought with it an unfavourable media spotlight and myriad running commentaries on the nature of the outsourcing industry. More than six and a half years later, another construction giant, ISG, has collapsed.

Whilst the company had been struggling for months, all attempts at securing a rescue deal failed. As many commentators have already highlighted, this is likely to have wide-reaching effects for many sub-contractors and suppliers who will be owed vast sums of money by the company. Whether the Government moves to change the way UK accounting works, so the collapse of one company doesn’t send huge shockwaves through the rest of the system, remains to be seen, but it is acutely clear that better early warning systems should be in place.

In this issue, Energy Management & Sustainability take centre stage. Energy Assets talks to Tomorrow’s FM about a project it was involved in with The University of Wales Trinity Saint David, whilst Clive Bodenham, Founder of Clarke Controls, highlights how modern Energy Management Systems (EMS) are transforming energy efficiency, particularly in heating.

We also have expert analysis on Winter Maintenance from Outco and Deckpro Pumps, as well as a range of companies offering their thoughts on Security and HVAC. There’s plenty to get stuck into this month.

Enjoy the read.
