10 QUESTIONS WITH...
relatable; the personalities, the setting, the environment, the sense of belonging – there may not have been many sparkly vampires and werewolves in South London at the time, but the rest of it was pretty similar.
Q12IF YOU COULD HOST A DINNER PARTY WITH THREE GUESTS, DEAD
OR ALIVE, WHO WOULD THEY BE AND WHY? Betty White, Ron Perlman and Arnold Vosloo. Betty White is iconic! She is incredibly talented and has been such an inspiration throughout her life. She has achieved so much and I am in awe of her accomplishments. Ron Perlman is one of my favourite actors. His acting is so effortless and seamless that sometimes you can forget that he’s playing a character. He makes it feel so organic, even when he’s playing mythical creatures! The Mummy was probably one of my most watched movies as a child, mainly because I was obsessed with Arnold Vosloo’s character!
Q13ANY ADVICE TO SOMEONE JUST Q14WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE STARTING OUT IN THE INDUSTRY?
Take every opportunity or training that is offered to you. Even if your first job isn’t your dream job, it’s a foot in the door.
FUTURE OF THE DESIGN INDUSTRY?
Technology is always advancing. Design is influenced by trends and trends are influenced by design. Currently in a postmodernism era, we often see subtle nods to Art Deco and Pop Art- usually within logos or even products. It’s not uncommon to see a CMD Ltd on-desk module with a hint of a non-standard colour. However design evolves, I think that there will always be links and inspiration from times gone by, which I find truly humbling.
Q15WHICH AREA OF DESIGN DO YOU THINK COULD BE BEST
TRANSFORMED THROUGH TECHNOLOGY? Drawing tablets are such a useful way for creatives to be able to efficiently draw out design concepts digitally, without having to sacrifice the organic way of drawing with a pen and paper. Unsteady lines are automatically sharpened; and much like a fountain pen, lines can also change thickness, whilst maintaining fluidity.
Transferring these works to other applications is much more efficient and the drawings can be manipulated with ease. Using paper for inspirational doodles can often lead to wasted resources, and, as an additional advantage, digital drawings can be backed up and protected. Whilst already an existing method for creating art, I think it could be beneficial to adapt this into a work environment.
