FRONT OF HOUSE

MAKING THE WORKPLACE A DESTINATION

The traditional office perks just aren’t cutting it anymore, exclaims Bianca Angelico, Chief Daymaker at On Verve, as she looks at ways to bring back the magic to workplaces.

The future of front of house and guest services relies on applying that ‘wow’ factor. Creating experiences that make the workplace a destination for employees, guests, and clients. An experience they’ll choose over and over again. If we keep the same dated ethics, the working from home pattern will continue to flourish, and the office will become a thing of the past. We’ve all adapted and familiarised ourselves with the working from home format to a point where many are now questioning the role and need of the office. In truth, the traditional office perks just aren’t cutting it anymore.

Facilities management and guest services have a huge role to play in supporting businesses in making the workplace a desirable place to be. With working from home continuing to spike into 2021, it’s estimated that 70% of the workforce will be working remotely by 2025. Yet, many are forgetting what makes a shared space so special. It’s up to our industry to bring the magic back into the office and to make the workplace more than a working space.

Starting strong Entering the office should be effortless. If it becomes a hassle, you’ve failed before you’ve even begun. We introduced a welcome back service that made entering and exiting the office both simple and structured. By using a workplace app, employees can book select times to use the workspace. The data is then synched with the building and the employee is warmly greeted upon arrival. No pass needed, no loose items to remember. Everything is prepared and ready for the employee, from parking and lockers to a favoured workstation. With our DayMakers ready for any questions, this blend of technology and people provides employees with the VIP treatment they crave.

It’s all about taking the stress away from people, making sure they know we’ve always got them covered, and always available to help when needed. This service focusses on creating an enjoyable and valued employee experience. Starting off correctly sets up the entire day and is an integral part in making the workplace a destination.

The little things When you think of ‘wow’ factors, you may imagine big confetti and fireworks. Grand gestures can only go so far, it’s the little things that make the real difference. Possibly

the simplest yet most fundamental ‘little thing’ is a smile. Connectivity is something people have craved since the pandemic, and entering a workplace surrounded by positivity is infectious. A positive employee will build skills quicker, boost their health, and improve their work.

Temperature control is one such aspect many businesses may forget or neglect, when in fact it can make or break the experience. Air temperature is a big discussion amongst employees, with 80% of office workers regularly complaining about the temperature of their workplace. Our DayMakers are constantly surveying the temperature of the office, walking the floors to make sure every facet of the space is at optimum temperature.

The location of objects and their accessibility is also important. We have a team of porters who measure the working space, intelligently moving and shifting the environment to allow easy access for the employee. It’s another little thing that may be overlooked, but a neat and tidy workstation that’s perfectly prepped with everything someone will need is a service you just can’t replicate at home.

Problem solvers In making the workplace a destination, no isn’t a word employees want to hear. There’s always a solution, you just need to put your heads together and work as a team to solve the problem. Going that extra mile and showing a determination to always help is significant, it shows that the workplace is more than place of labour, but an experience and destination that can’t be simulated at home.
