FOOD & DRINK

have seen a sugar reduction of up to 60% and the majority of the range has a reduced fat content of 50%, without compromising on taste. We still include more indulgent treats in our range as customers do want these. It really is all about providing the choice.

“We’ve also increased the options for those with dietary requirements. No one with gluten intolerance, for example, should be restricted to fruit, fruit, or fruit. We’ve introduced different grain varieties, such as jumbo gluten- free oats and chia seeds, which are allergen free and have differing effects on blood glucose levels that can help maintain energy levels. Coconut water and milk is also now a regularly-used ingredient.”

With nutritional and allergen information for each product clearly on display at the counters, customers can be assured that their choices will meet their dietary and lifestyle needs.

‘APP-Y’ CUSTOMERS Tapping into the app-based lifestyles of its customer

demographic, Lusso’s grab-and-go range is directly linked to the popular healthy-lifestyle app My Fitness Pal, the free smartphone app and website that tracks diet and exercise to determine optimal calorific intake.

Each product in the portfolio has been loaded as a menu item on My Fitness Pal and a dedicated QR code on the pricing label enables customers to instantly scan and load their choices into their food diary.

CONSISTENT INNOVATION Every item in the grab-and-go range is made to a

consistent specification across Lusso’s participating sites to ensure consistency and accuracy of the nutritional information, and to comply with FSA regulations on labelling. However, this in no way stifles the innovation and creativity that Lusso chefs offer their clients, who can look forward to new and exciting dishes coming their way soon.

As Paul Hurren concludes, grab-and-go is most definitely an evolving range: “Yes, our chefs have to adhere to exact recipe specifications as this is what our publicised nutritional information is based on but this does not dampen their flair and creativity, quite the opposite in fact. Lusso chefs are very talented and we want our clients to continue to benefit from this. We actively encourage our chefs to innovate and create new and signature grab-and- go dishes. With the specification details, we can formulate the recipes and calculate the nutritional values to display at point of sale and upload to My Fitness Pal. We want to grow this range and become even more competitive. We’re always looking for new ideas and our chefs are engaged and rising to the challenge.”
