COVER STORY

THE ULTIMATE TRAINING TOOLKIT

As the COVID-19 pandemic enters a frightening new phase, everyone is relying on the healthcare sector to keep us safe. Tork manufacturer Essity has responded by introducing a package of training tools to support healthcare cleaners in their bid to provide clean and safe healthcare environments.

The new variant of COVID-19 has upped the ante in UK hospitals this winter. Wards are continuing to fill up rapidly and staff are being stretched to capacity as victims of the new strain begin to stretch our healthcare system to breaking point.

Medical staff are at the frontline in the battle against the virus. Our NHS heroes are working around the clock to manage the crisis and care for their patients. But hospital cleaners are standing shoulder-to-shoulder beside them and they, too, have an extremely difficult job to do since the cleanliness of healthcare surfaces and frequent touch- points depend entirely on the rigorousness of their work.

Cleaners are coming under increasing pressure during the current phase of the pandemic and healthcare staff are understandably scared, harassed and rushed off their feet in these difficult times, which means that such occasional lapses are only to be expected. However, Essity are here to help.

As a hygiene company with a track record of award- winning training tools we have developed a complete

set of cleaning services in a bid to support healthcare cleaners as they carry out their work. The aim is to help hospital cleaning teams to tackle a range of different situations in various healthcare settings and to provide the best possible outcomes.

Launched in January 2021, the Tork Interactive Clean Hospital Training package offers an engaging way of training cleaning staff via a series of ‘real world’ scenarios.

The training takes place in a virtual hospital and incorporates two modules: one for discharge cleaning and the other for daily cleaning protocols in an occupied patient room. Both modules focus on learning by doing and each takes the cleaner through the entire process in a logical fashion.

The cleaner is first reminded to wash their hands and don a set of PPE before entering the room to be cleaned. They then work through each step of the process from picking up debris, emptying the bins and wiping down all refuse containers before moving on to other cleaning tasks.
