FRIDAY DRINKS: A THING OF THE PAST?
As businesses address a new workplace environment, how are caterers adapting to a less densified office and to the impact that the office is having on networking and teams getting together again, asks Anthony Bennett, Co-owner Director of Bennett Hay.
The transformative move to agile organisations and hybrid working is having an inevitable knock-on effect on workplace culture and office life. However, as the pandemic proved, we are hungry for social interaction via our networks and communities to support both our physical and emotional health.
What started out as being the potential decimation of the physical office has come full circle as employees seek an alternative from working at home to address the now blurred lines of the kitchen table and the boardroom:
• For graduates, and a large proportion of Gen-Z, their first years at work have been lived out through a laptop lens and potentially in shared accommodation with little privacy to be able to work or to carry out

important training and development of those formative career years.
• Only two years ago, in a typical 40-hour working week, we would spend more time with our colleagues than with our family.
Going agile and hybrid has flipped time spent with work colleagues vs friends or family on its head and there’s a marked move to reassert and re-develop face-to-face relationships with colleagues and peers to cultivate teamwork, collaboration and to ensure company values are lived.
