In 2014, the Post Office established a relationship with global service provider Atalian Serve Fast forward four years and the duo won a partnership in cleaning accolade at the


The Post Office wanted to reduce both its carbon footprint and costs, and it needed a service provider who could support and lead this dual objective. Atalian Servest was originally awarded the contract as a result of demonstrating commitment to delivering high standard across its various service lines and compliantly extended its contract with the Post Office, without tender, in October 2017.

communication between provider and customer could be improved, and the working relationship


needed further commitment and ongoing attentiveness.”


The contract covers three administrative sites in Chesterfield, London and Bolton along with 16 small distribution centre ‘cash sites’ – where all cash and stamps are held and then distributed to Post Office branches – and 275 high street Post Office branches across the UK, Scotland and Ireland. Over the past four years, the two companies have together developed a vested and aligned outsourcing relationship that has created a win-win partnership focused on outcomes and real results rather than solely on transactions.


Both the Post Office and Atalian Servest are committed to reducing their impact on the environment, and the overriding aim of the initial partnership was to become stronger together in this mission – something which

has grown in success over the years. Since the start of the relationship, Atalian Servest has worked with the Post Office to consistently deliver innovative service improvements. Firstly, the team exceeded the customer’s official targets for 2016-17, including the desire to ensure that 70% of all waste generated could be recycled. Now only 1.2% of its waste going to landfill, proving that 98.8% of all waste generated is recycled and recovered.


Establishing a partnership Due to the sheer volume and variety of sites, the prestigious nature of the organisation and nationwide public reliance on its services, the Post Office is a challenging customer. Until Atalian Servest refreshed the relationship back in 2016, it was acknowledged that the communication between provider and customer could be improved, and the working relationship needed further commitment and ongoing attentiveness to make the partnership a truly successful one.


In line with this, Atalian Servest ran an ‘Innovation Day’ workshop at its head office in June 2017 which allowed the leadership personnel to meet the customer contacts at the Post Office, presenting insight into all of Atalian Servest’s divisions. Prior to this, the customer didn’t feel they knew much about its facilities services provider as a company, so this action was taken not only to enhance the working relationship but also provide the Post Office with the chance to enquire about other sides of the business, working practices and overall business ethos.


Steve Norris, Head of Property for the Post Office, explained: “We strive to uphold very high standards as an institution, and Atalian Servest is viewed as an extension of the team that helps us to meet these. Its escalation process means the team is a key part of the smooth running of the Post Office. If things ever do go wrong, the team works to put it right quickly, which is something of great importance to us.”
