HEADLINE HITTERS IWFM LAUNCHES DEGREE-LEVEL WORKPLACE QUALIFICATION

The Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management’s (IWFM) has launched its newly created Level 6 Diploma in Workplace.

Calling it a “groundbreaking qualification” sixty learners have enrolled in the ‘Level 6 Diploma in Workplace Leadership, Insight and Change’, the degree-level qualification, which supports IWFM’s aspiration to become a chartered professional body.

The qualification builds on a workplace leadership programme launched last summer. Its development was accelerated after senior representatives of HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) attended the three-day event. The resultant insight uncovered a demand for a comprehensive standard of attainment in workplace to support a strategic shift to smarter ways of working. Their people will study for the qualification in three groups, with the first starting yesterday, Thursday 14 November. The diploma will be delivered through a ‘blended learning’ approach, which combines

ISS IN NHS

TRUST WIN Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust has awarded ISS Facility Services Healthcare a seven-year contract to deliver non- clinical soft FM services across the Trust.

The contract will deliver services to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, University Hospital Lewisham and the associated community sites.

This represents a contract retention for ISS at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the award will see approximately 400 staff transferring to ISS from University Lewisham Hospital.

ISS has committed to invest over £4m in new equipment and technology. ISS will also continue to focus on the development of its people through the ISS Academy model, which will enable operational and transformational change.

The Trust’s Chief Executive, Ben Travis said: “We involved staff and members of the public in the tendering process over the last year, to make sure that the new contract for these services meets our needs. We are excited about working in partnership with ISS and about the range of improvements they will be introducing.”

Linda Hausmanis, IWFM CEO commented: “We believe this Level 6 diploma is the first pure workplace qualification of its kind. It is an invaluable addition to this growing discipline. We are talking to many organisations, both public and

private sector, who are seeing the tremendous value of the workplace opportunity but require upskilling to seize it.

“This arrangement has enabled us to develop a qualification that will benefit the whole industry, in line with IWFM’s vision for a distinct profession recognised for its ability to enable people to transform organisations and their performance.”

SPIE SECURES UNIPRES CONTRACT

SPIE UK has won an eleven-month contract with Unipres, a manufacturer of pressed parts for automobiles, to supply, install and commission additional fire alarm detection and graphics as part of phase 5 extension works at Unipres’ manufacturing plant in Sunderland.

As part of the contract, SPIE will be installing a new fire detection and alarm control panel in the new plant room of the building, as well as diverting some of the existing loops to the new control panel.

SPIE has been working with Unipres since 2015, originally undertaking smaller works for a subcontractor which has grown into a relationship where the company now works directly for Unipres as one of its preferred suppliers.

During the original installation in 2018, SPIE installed an Advanced Fire Alarm panel, which was one of the first of its kind, with a built in fully operational graphics LED screen.
