PAINTBALLING RESIDENT PROVES AGE IS JUST

A NUMBER A young-at-heart resident living at a care home in Cassington recently went on a paintballing adventure with her friends at the home.

Sheila Woodley, who has been a part of Churchfields Care Home for four years, fulfilled her wish of doing something adventurous before she turns 90 years old.

As part of the home’s Magic Moment scheme, Churchfields’ Activities Coordinator Faye Tanner arranged for Sheila to fulfil her wish of going paintballing.

It was a successful event and Sheila said: “Doing activities like this makes me feel young again. We had so much fun but made such a mess that I felt terrible watching them clean it up.

“I love being mischievous and having fun with Faye, she’s one of the best people I know.”

The idea came about when some of the residents at the home were talking about how age can make them feel restricted but Faye believes that age has no limits and wanted to prove this to them.

She came up with a list of adventurous activities for the residents to choose from and they all agreed on paintballing, especially Sheila, who was very excited to try it.

Faye said: “I think age shouldn’t limit anyone and all our residents should be able to live their life to the full. It was amazing seeing Sheila have fun and relive her childhood.”

Sharon Rhodes, Deputy Home Manager at Churchfields, said: “Our lifestyle team do the most amazing things for our residents. They ensure our residents have an exciting and engaging lifestyle programme that includes activities, events and surprises.

“We are so pleased that we could make Sheila’s wish come true and look forward to being able to do the same for our other residents this year.”

HOME INSTEAD NAMES CARE PROFESSIONAL

OF THE YEAR Home Instead has named Anthony Chinoso from their Camden franchise office as their Care Professional of the Year. The 30-year-old was one of three finalists selected from the 12,000 Care Professionals employed by Home Instead across the UK.

Crowning Anthony as Care Professional of the Year Award was the highlight of Home Instead’s Annual Conference, held in Manchester. Anthony received his award from Home Instead’s CEO Martin Jones MBE and Sky News’ Sarah-Jane Mee in front of an audience of 1,200 made up of franchise owners and their key players.

Originally from Nigeria, Anthony looked aſter his grandparents before moving to England where he settled in the Camden area.

The judges were particularly impressed with Anthony’s patience and commitment to ‘getting through’ to a client who was living with dementia. He takes great care in really getting to know his clients and finding new stories and conversation threads to share with them.

Speaking about his work, Anthony said: “Caring gives you the opportunity to experience life from another person’s perspective. You need to take time to listen to each client’s story so you

understand them better and then you are able to bring the right energy.

“My clients look forward to my visits and I make sure that I bring my best every time.

Recognised alongside Anthony were Angela Marsh from the Salford & Worsley office and Tinashe Mutore from the Glasgow North franchise.

Speaking about Anthony and the other finalists, Home Instead’s CEO Martin Jones MBE said: “I had the pleasure of spending time with Anthony, Angela and Tinashe during our Conference weekend.

“They are all deserving finalists and exude care and compassion. They have each brought these qualities to bear when working with clients to allow them to live fulfilled and happy lives at home.

“I know that the judges had great difficulty selected our winner but Anthony is truly a remarkable man with so much to give and a great deal of energy. His smile is infectious.”
