COVER STORY

With the recent changes to the CQC inspection process, members also have exclusive access to the Good and outstanding care guide (Single Assessment Framework version), which includes 34 Quality Statement Recommendation checklists. This comprehensive 300-page guide was co-produced by Skills for Care and The Outstanding Society and is aimed at managers and those supporting regulated services to be ready for inspection.

In a survey of our members, 97% said they would recommend membership to others. For £35 per year, registered managers can become a member of our growing community, which helps to further professionalise the role.

THE CARE EXCHANGE PODCAST

Our popular care exchange podcast, now in its fourth series, is an opportunity for registered managers and other sector experts to share their experiences and insights.

Previous guests have discussed issues including how to create a good recruitment journey, how to achieve an Outstanding rating, and the importance of compassionate leadership.

Listeners have told us that the podcast provides inspiration and tips for improving their service and strategy.

WEBINARS

Our registered manager webinars are another useful resource for managers. These are presented live to a virtual audience, and recordings are available on our website.

We have over 30 recorded webinars to watch covering a wide range of topics that are vital for registered managers to know about, from managing a service, to managing people, recruitment and retention, and wellbeing.

Recent webinars have focused on involving people in care planning, integration, the new CQC inspection, providing evidence to the CQC and digital technology.

CQC INSPECTION CHANGES

We know from our conversations with registered managers that inspection changes are a key area of interest which many are currently looking for more support with.

The CQC new Single Assessment Framework sees the biggest change to inspection in almost a decade. This framework will be used to inspect and rate all regulated health and social care providers, as well as system-level organisations and includes 34 new Quality Statements.

Further to the Good and outstanding care guide, offered exclusively to Skills for Care’s registered manager members, Skills for Care has a range of practical guidance and resources to support managers in meeting the CQC standards. This includes our GO Online: Inspection toolkit, which offers exercises, examples, recommendations and resources to help better understand CQC expectations.

Throughout March 2024, Skills for Care is shining a spotlight on and celebrating registered managers with our #ChampioningRegisteredManagers campaign.

During the campaign, we will signpost to our resources for registered managers from the campaign landing page on our website, as well as on social media and other communications channels.

It will also include information and insights from registered managers and others working in care with blogs and articles sharing real-life insights and experiences about the role.

Key themes throughout the campaign will include managing change, succession planning and the importance of deputy managers.

You can follow the campaign and get involved with sharing your own insights on social media by using #ChampioningRegisteredManagers.

Skills for Care has also designed a range of eLearning modules to help leaders and managers understand what is expected of their service and how to best evidence CQC’s expectations. The content of these eLearning modules aligns with the new Single Assessment Framework.
