COVER STORY

Graham Fish, Head Coach at Leverstock Green Lawn Tennis Club explained his choice clearly. He said: “The hygiene statistics we looked at showed us quite clearly that bacteria are not removed effi ciently from hands using hot air dryers. In addition, the last thing members need is to walk into an environment where warm, heavy air is being blown around the changing room. We are promoting exercise, healthy living and making the most of an outdoor environment to a family membership, so it was important for us to move to a product that supported this ethos, and this is why we chose Katrin Hand Towels.”

Already you can see that the specific needs of Katrin customers vary from one environment to another, but there are many other examples besides. Mark highlighted one: “One independent school in London told us that with the system they were using, the paper itself was functional, but they had a lot of complaints that the pupils could not operate the dispensers; the system needed a handle turning and the younger ones especially just couldn’t do it, so staff were constantly called to help. The Katrin Hand Towel System overcame this problem for them, and teachers actually thanked facility staff for lowering the burden of constantly accompanying children to the washroom in order to work the system.”

Easy Care “In the care home market, customers tell us that homes often tend to be quite sprawling, because of the need for lots of bedrooms,” Mark continued. “The Katrin Handy Pack cases make it much easier for staff to distribute the towels around a home, without having to carry a cardboard case around with them, and then they fi nd that the plastic cases make an ideal vehicle for collecting rubbish on the return journey.

“The Katrin Easy Pick is also proving popular in care homes and early years educational spaces, because the self-contained sleeves of products mean that staff can now put hand towels where there isn’t a dispenser, and be confi dent that they will remain clean and hygienic even if they get knocked on the fl oor or moved by patients or pupils.”

Then there is the age old issue with the c-fold towels. Mark explained: “As we know, there is always a 50% chance of staff loading towels into the dispenser incorrectly. When this happens, it means that there is nothing to grab hold of to pull the towel from the dispenser, which in turn, means users are required to push their hand up inside the dispenser to grab a handful. This results in a very high risk of germ cross- contamination – simply not acceptable in any healthcare environment where infection control is essential.

“In summary, working environments are demanding, each in their own way. Katrin has always delivered excellent paper solutions for hygiene, and constantly bring dispenser innovation to the market. However, for us, the most important thing is to ensure that we are matching products to customers’ exact requirements, in whatever industry they are in.”

Consulting With The Experts This is the driver behind the Katrin Hygiene Consultancy offer, which is a service model for reviewing business needs, current solutions, inspecting customer facilities, rating the hygiene level and offering a report to the person responsible for the facilities. The report focuses on best practice and good fi t products, before helping facilities staff to implement the recommendations and monitor improvement as the implementation continues. Cost-in-use and environmental issues are also naturally paid attention to, helping companies to meet their green objectives and stay within budget.

Hygiene Consultancy is not about selling – it is about evaluating the business need and the premises, before giving advice and guidance based on our many years of experience. In this way, we help our customers to make the right choices. The fi nal stage in the process is good user training, and the Consultancy Model has this covered as well. Where appropriate, Metsä Tissue can invite facilities staff along to their hygiene education centre – the Katrin Academy – to train them in hygiene best practice and product usage.
