Plastic fantastic

Cromwell Polythene discuss making the world a cleaner, greener, more economical place.

Plastic is an incredibly versatile material that brings many benefits to society. Lightweight plastic products, including bin liners, make a huge difference to the effectiveness of the cleaning industry.

However, we have all seen the effects of irresponsibly discarded plastic, and the harm it can do to the environment, so we need to do more to ensure it is valued and used responsibly as a recyclable resource, rather than as a throwaway product.

Responsibly produced plastic packaging can have a high recycled content (up to 100%) and can be recycled many times, not only saving on virgin material but the associated energy as well. Recycling plastics is both resource and energy efficient, and by specifying ever more recycled plastic content in products we are helping grow the market for recyclates.

Where recycling is not practical, the calorific value can be recovered to generate electricity or heat at the end of their useful life, through energy from waste (EfW) plants.

Plastic packaging brings value and efficiencies to the supply chain – weighing 4.5 times less than alternatives including paper, cardboard, glass and metal, and can actually help reduce municipal solid waste (MSW). It also keeps food fresher for longer, extends shelf life, and helps reduce food waste.

Less is more

Sacks, bags and speciality products for the storage and collection of segregated waste should be fit for purpose, with the lowest environmental impact. Cromwell’s LowCO2

t

environmentally friendly plastics range – including several types of refuse sacks – are lightweight products that

use less material but achieve the same high-performance standards. Put simply, less plastic is used to achieve the same – or better – result.

The lightweight nature also means fewer greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through the production cycle and distribution chain. The products come packaged in smaller cartons too which means they take up less space, making transport and storage more efficient.

As the name implies, the LowCO2 t

range is cost effective too. With a growing demand for a reduction in the volumes of plastic in circulation, LowCO2

t offers the cleaning sector

a more resource efficient and environmentally responsible alternative to some of the heavier, bulkier products in the marketplace.

We are proud to be an independent, family-run business, committed to supplying products for the capture and containment of waste and recyclables. It is our mission to be the most resourceful company in plastics, creating products that help make the world cleaner, greener, and more economical.

Sustainability is at the heart of what we do – we use recycled materials wherever possible in our product range and encourage the return of post- industrial and post-consumer plastics and other materials to the production cycle for re-processing. The goal is that our products are not only lower cost to our customers, but also to the environment.
