Improving non-slip floor cleaning

When safety flooring installed throughout Dowding Vets’ Gainsborough site proved resistant to mop cleaning, a call to a specialist was in order.

After the practice manager chatted over the phone with Prochem’s tech team, the company organised a site visit for Regional Sales Representative, James Callaghan.

James said: “The practice had safety flooring throughout, which was proving difficult to clean with manual mops due to its non-slip nature, so traditional methods such as manual mopping and rotary machines were proving ineffective.”

James demonstrated cleaning the floors by applying Prochem’s Ultrapac Renovate using a Lindhaus LW30 (240v) with a microfibre roller. A multi-functional lightweight floor scrubber dryer, the LW30 offers high speed brush action and forward and reverse cleaning for confined areas.

Dowding Vets were delighted and bought into the solution: the supply and install was carried out by Prochem’s local distributor, Richard Mangan at Crystal Clear in Hull.

Richard commented: “The Lindhaus was a winner, being easy to use and manoeuvrable. Its roller holds the water and chemical in contact with the floor with an increased contact

time, improving the cleaning outcome to a higher standard.”

When it comes to healthcare, it pays not to forget the needs of our pets, says James. He added: “There are over 5,000 veterinary practices in the UK. Their hygiene needs can be as exacting as those of hospitals and care homes, making for a market offering good business prospects for professional cleaners in their locality.”

Loo of the Year Awards celebrates

trademark success The Loo of the Year Awards, the UK’s independent washroom benchmarking scheme, has reached a major milestone: both its name and logo are now officially registered trademarks.

Since acquiring the Awards in 2021, Managing Directors Becky Wall BEM and Charles Wall, together with Awards Manager Jane and their team of independent inspectors, have worked to elevate standards across the sector and expand the profile of washroom excellence nationwide.

Becky said: “This is a key step in the ongoing development of the Loo of the Year Awards. Our trademark status confirms that the Loo of the Year Awards are not only recognised, but also protected, giving added confidence to our entrants, sponsors and partners.

“For clients, it means you are joining a trusted and credible programme. For sponsors, it strengthens visibility and credibility. For everyone involved, it demonstrates our long-term commitment to consistency, fairness and raising standards across the sector.”

Founded in 1987, the Awards are widely recognised as the UK’s authoritative scheme for assessing and celebrating ‘away from home’ washroom facilities. Each facility is independently

assessed against 101 criteria including cleanliness, décor, signage, accessibility and customer care, with unannounced inspections providing a rigorous and transparent grading process. Entrants range from pubs and hotels to shopping centres, schools, motorway services and hospitals.

The Loo of the Year Awards recently expanded their team with Carl Smith, an industry leader in accessible toilet provision, who will work alongside Becky and Charles to encourage participation in the scheme and champion high standards in inclusive washroom facilities.

Looking ahead, the Loo of the Year Awards 2026 ceremony will take place at the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull in January. Paralympic champion Chris Hunt Skelley MBE will be the keynote speaker, sharing his journey as a visually impaired athlete and highlighting the importance of accessible washrooms. International professional speaker and business networking expert Stefan Thomas will host the event as MC, guiding attendees through a day of celebration, awards presentations and sector networking.

Becky added: “The Awards ceremony is more than just a celebration. It’s where our industry comes together to showcase best practice, highlight innovation and commit to higher standards for the future.”
