Improve commercial laundry operations

Tom Ford, Product Manager at Brightwell, outlines the key benefits of Internet-of-Things (IoT) enabled smart dosing systems.

The commercial laundry sector has many challenges to contend with on a daily basis, to ensure the highest standards of cleaning and hygiene are maintained. This includes maintenance of equipment, cost of supplies, water and energy efficiency, to allow precise dosing to prevent textile damage and ensure a consistent level of cleanliness.

If you still dose washing chemical by hand in on-site laundry facilities such as hotels, nursing homes or hospitals, you can replace the inconvenience of manual dosing with an automatic dosing system that provides remote access and real time reports on chemical consumption.

This not only simplifies the washing process, but also helps to prevent textile damage and inconsistent wash results caused by excessive or incorrect dosage. In addition, the risk of detergent spills is avoided, resulting in a cleaner and safer working environment.

For example, our Nexus smart laundry dosing system is set to transform the operation of on-premises and commercial laundries through remote monitoring. Combining advanced pump technology with secure network connectivity and plug- and-play capability, it offers versatility for streamlined laundry management. Built on an integrated IoT platform, Nexus saves time, reduces costs and enhances resource efficiency.

Efficient laundry management

anywhere, anytime Commercial laundry equipment is subject to a significant amount of wear and tear, and requires regular maintenance to remain operational. Our patented diaphragm pump technology reduces the necessity for maintenance and site visits. It also minimises costs as Nexus’ chemically resistant pumps ensure consistent and accurate flow rates. The Nexus unit is available with three-eight pumps and can be easily upgraded with plug-and-play pump modules, providing ultimate flexibility.

Advancements enable valuable data to be collected, providing insights into laundry operations including chemical consumption and dosing quantities. Nexus provides secure remote connectivity and data management, enabling you to collect and filter data with Microsoft Azure system security. It’s easy to set up too, with an app that is compatible with Windows, Android and iOS via

Bluetooth. The BrightNet Connect web portal facilitates remote internet access, allowing users to customise wash programmes and adjust dosage with ease.

Useful accessories

In larger laundries, it’s quite common for the dosing devices to be placed several metres away from the washing machine. In this case, a Flush Manifold is a useful additional accessory. It assists the dosing equipment by pushing chemical to the washing machine over longer distances. In addition, only one supply line to the washing machine is required, saving installation time.

If undiluted chemicals are put directly into the washing machine too early, it can cause damage to the items to be washed. A rinse distributor dilutes the chemical sufficiently before it enters the machine, protecting your laundry and can ensure safe dosing by creating a physical separation between incompatible chemicals.

Meeting customer needs

Leading laundry dosing systems incorporate cutting- edge technologies in both pump technology and system programming. Seek out solutions with adaptable software and intuitive IoT integration. Features such as data insights, combined with advanced pump technology, not only add substantial value but also streamline management processes for customers.

Manufacturers of dosing systems should always work closely with chemical suppliers when developing their products, to ensure that they meet the needs of end customers.

An illuminated, easy-to-read LCD screen provides the end user with all the necessary information, whilst also offering the possibility of personalisation, e.g. company name and/or phone number can be displayed. Check with the manufacturer of your laundry dispensing system to see if there are any other custom design options available that fit your brand.

By implementing best practices and investing in modern technology and durable equipment, commercial laundries can overcome common challenges and thrive in today’s competitive market.
