Bunzl acquires Nisbets and Pamark

Bunzl has announced it has signed an agreement to acquire Nisbets in the UK and Finland’s Pamark.

Bunzl signed an agreement to acquire an 80% stake in Nisbets and associated entities for an initial consideration of £339m, with the purchase price to be settled in cash. The transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals.

Founded in 1983 by Andrew Nisbet, Nisbets is a respected omni-channel distributor of catering equipment and consumables in the UK and Ireland, Northern Europe and Australasia, offering an extensive product range including a wide range of own-brand products to foodservice customers. It has over 1,800 employees and an experienced management team that will remain with the Group post-acquisition, with Andrew Nisbet acting as a non-executive director and the family continuing to hold a minority interest.

Bunzl also signed an agreement to acquire its first business in Finland, Pamark. This is expected to complete soon and will increase the number of countries in which Bunzl operates to 33. Pamark is a distributor of cleaning and hygiene, healthcare, foodservice and safety products to a broad range of private and public sector customers in Finland.

Frank van Zanten, Chief Executive Officer of Bunzl, commented: “The acquisition of Nisbets is an exciting step for Bunzl. Andrew Nisbet has built a high-quality business, with a well-respected management team. The business is complementary to our operations in the catering equipment sector and will enhance our own brand offering and digital capabilities.

“Pamark is our first acquisition in Finland and provides us with a strong platform from which to grow our presence. This is an excellent start to 2024, maintaining the strong acquisition momentum of recent years. Our pipeline remains active, supported by the strength of our balance sheet.”

Churchill retains ambulance service partnership Churchill has retained its partnership with the South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS).

The relationship began over a decade ago and now includes two successful re- tenders. The core contract is worth £5.5m, and centres around the specialist Make Ready ambulance preparation services. The latest contract will be in place for three years with the option to extend further.

Churchill has been reappointed by SCAS due to its Make Ready service. Prior to every shift, ambulance fleets are fully prepared with services including infection control, medicine being fully stocked, medical devices being checked and periodic clinical deep cleans. Make Ready services also monitor ambulance allocation, along with tracking vehicles, refuelling them, routinely assessing and auditing them. Depending on the operational needs, vehicle decontamination after an infectious disease incident is also offered.

The tools and services Churchill provides give peace of mind for ambulance service providers and real time access to data and performance of the SCAS fleet. This ensures that patient safety and trust is at the forefront of all operations.

The SCAS is an integral part of the NHS’ daily operations, providing ambulance services across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and the majority of Hampshire. The widespread operations require swift and effective servicing to meet demands in emergency situations.

Rufus Fidgeon, Operations Director of Churchill, said: “We are delighted that the SCAS has decided to retain our partnership. Our Make Ready teams are incredibly hard working and were commended with the ‘Going the Extra Mile Award’ in the 2022 Golden Service Awards, for their work with SCAS. Our employees went above and beyond to ensure the safety of SCAS’ patients in recent years, especially after the strain of the pandemic on emergency services.”

Julie Larner, Operational Partner for the SCAS, added: “Our partnership with Churchill and its Make Ready service allows us to provide exceptional and up-to- date care for patients. Their deep-cleaning and vehicle maintenance services keep our fleet ready to serve the public.”
