Editor’s Voice Ahead of the biggest event on the UK Cleaning and Hygiene industry’s calendar, The
Cleaning Show 2023, I took a little time out to travel around the globe to visit Japan. While there, I couldn’t help but take in the country’s fabled cleanliness and hospitality, from
the speedy cleaning of bullet trains at Tokyo station, to well-maintained toilet facilities and the relative tidiness of the streets, despite the scarcity of bins. Perhaps the only disappointment of my trip was not encountering one of the legendary self-opening toilets.
In truth, Japan is a noticeably clean country compared to what we’re used to in the West, but it’s far from pristine. It has the same issues faced around the world, especially when
it comes to littering and public facilities in desperate need of better management, but on the whole during my time travelling between more than half a dozen cities, the country’s reputation felt well earned.
Back in the UK, however, we’re all geared up for the aforementioned Cleaning Show 2023, and in this issue we’ve got a bumper Show Guide for you. Inside you’ll find a wealth of
information about the various activities taking place from 14-16 March at ExCel London, from extensive details regarding the Conference Programme to comprehensive Listings for the biggest and brightest exhibitors, so you can learn more about what they’ll be bringing to the show floor.
Also in this issue, we’ve got a massive feature section dedicated to Healthcare Hygiene. Liam Mynes from Essity looks into how thorough cleaning and hand hygiene can help prevent outbreaks in the healthcare sector, while Northwood’s Paul Mulready explains how healthcare washrooms can help tackle issues like hospital flu cases soaring.
Gavin Holmes from Robert Scott reveals how tech can be used to improve hygiene and

reduce environmental impact, while Chris Wakefield from GOJO discusses how the skin health of healthcare workers can be protected by a good hand hygiene system. Also, in our Cleaning Chemicals section, Christeyns UK’s Justin Kerslake reveals how Ozone is helping laundries improve efficiencies and wash outcomes.
Thank you very much for reading, and I hope you enjoy the issue!
