“It’s more important

than ever to carry out thorough and regular

cleaning of high footfall areas.”

Rapid reopening response

Here, Robert Scott emphasises the importance of a rapid-response floorcare routine as premises start to reopen.

Rapid response cleaning is critical when it comes to effective floorcare maintenance. If not implemented already, businesses should be thinking about rapid response as part of an enhanced cleaning regime as premises prepare to reopen.

With recent studies suggesting the COVID-19 virus can live on surfaces, including floors, for a number of days, it’s more important than ever to carry out thorough and regular cleaning of high footfall areas.

The right tools for the job

As well as being proven to remove over 99.9% of dirt and bacteria, microfibre performs exceptionally well as part of a floorcare routine as it provides quick-drying results which will help prevent slips and trips. This also allows recently- cleaned areas to reopen as soon as possible, avoiding unnecessary closure of space at a time when social distancing measures are in place.

Robert Scott’s Pro-mist Mop System is an innovative microfibre flat mop kit, which combines an ergonomic handle with microfibre pads for effective, rapid response floor cleaning without the need for buckets or constant wringing out. There’s also the option of disposable microfibre or antibacterial Nano-AG silver microfibre mop pads depending on the user’s requirements.

Alternatively, the Microspeedy microfibre system is a complete flat mopping system with a professional folding break-frame that’s impact-resistant and highly durable.

For those requiring disposable products, the big white socket mop is a lightweight, super-absorbent mop made from non-woven fabric strips. It’s a fast-drying and cost- effective alternative to cotton mops, making it suitable for rapid response across smaller areas. It also features a more environmentally-friendly socket, made from less plastic, available in the standard hygiene colour code.

Washable brooms are ideal for external areas, featuring a polypropylene broom head with soft and stiff bristles which

can be washed and disinfected after use to ensure optimum cleaning hygiene externally.

Minimising disruption

As part of a rapid response regime, staff need to consider how they can minimise disruption to public areas. Slips, trips and falls are among the most common causes of accidents and injuries in the workplace and often occur as a result of improper cleaning processes. However, with a robust rapid response cleaning system in place, facilities can look to minimise accidents and keep the workplace safe as footfall starts to increase again.

It is worth considering how you will cordon areas, using products such as high visibility signage, cones or tape, and how long the signs are required to stay in position. It is also important to consider how this will affect social distancing measures and if the space left provides staff and visitors with enough room to move freely and safely in line with government guidelines.

To help businesses safely operate with social distancing measures, we have introduced a new social distancing safety floor sign to remind the public to keep a two-metre distance at all times.

Toucan Eco, the bio-cleaning system that uses salt, water and electricity to kill 99.999% of microorganisms, germs and bacteria and is proven to eliminate harder-to-kill viruses than coronavirus, can also be used as a cleaning solution for most floors in a wide range of facilities. It’s a cost- effective cleaning product for facilities of all sizes, available in a range of unit options from one to 350 litres, and can be used with most mopping systems.

Whether that’s spot cleaning or rapid response tools, or as part of trolley and caddy units, its versatility makes Toucan Eco an attractive option for businesses that really are committed to sustainable alternatives.
